hypothetical lions team 2011?

Another vote for Cian Healy?!
The worlds gone mad! If an Irish prop has to be in there choose Ross or Court, but Adam Jones would eat either of them for breakfast

Adam Jones would be a great choice, and I agree would own most of these other props.....but im afraid unless he got a hair cut, no place in my team :D

And is also the current Lions tighthead ;)

"Jealous much?"

You wish you had hair like that

Sean O'Brien will be on the next Lions team. No doubt about that.

Probably, but he'll have a lot of competition,
Wood, Croft, Warbuton, Lydiate, Heaslip, Ferris around at the moment, plus who ever comes to the fore in the next two years (<--though that could be said about any player)

There are some mad f**king ******** here. Cian Healy? Tomas O'Leary? Leo Cullen? Tavis Knoyle?

Is this if you picked the Lions team now, or trying to guess for 2011? Because there's plenty of bolting potential out there. I wouldn't be entirely surprised if one of the current U20 crop of fly-halves was on the plane to Australia. Chris Robshaw completely deserves to be mentioned in what will be an absurdly competitive fight for back-row. I think one of the full-backs going will be a bolter, a lot of established names struggling for form.

Right now, the Lions will be picked something like this...

Takes the Wales and England front rows. Drop the prop you like the least.
Courtney Lawes, Richie Grey and Bradley Davies. Hard ******* lines on POC/Palmer et al
Back-row you could argue endlessly and depends largely on how distinguishes themselves that year. Right now, ignoring fitness, I'd take Ferris, Wood and... hmm... Beattie. The only back-row starting at the moment who don't deserve to be a Lion are Powell.

Ben Youngs will be 9. There is a yawning, embarassing chasm between him and every other scrum-half in the British Isles right now, even on his off days. Probably Reddan. Jesus.
Flood at 10. I'd probably use Hook on the bench, as whoever is covering fly-half isn't coming on there save in extremis.
Centre partnership is embarassing. Uhm... uhm... seriously. Thank gods that in two years time it will be Luke Marshall and Manu Tuilagi.
Wings, Ashton and Bowe. Quite hard on Shane, but he'll be dead by then anyway.
15, Foden. Earls probably covering on the bench as he has a knack of scoring tries as a sub, is a decent impact player and covers a lot of positions.

But yeah. 2 years is a long way away. Which is unfortunate, as Australia might find a few more decent forwards in that time.

I wouldn't worry about that - Gethin and Adam will be in their prime as props (30-32) and the English props will be barely 25, which is madness (along with the locks being in their mid-20s, and back row in late 20s) and all improving over the next two years

The concept of Australia having more then 1 decent forward per generation is something of a joke in it's own right.

Saw that Croft and Warburton had been selected in more then one post and realised this is another **** take thread.

Including injured players?

1. Gethin Jenkins
2. Dylan Heartly
3. Dan Cole
4. Courtney Lawes
5. Paul O'Connell
6. Tom Croft
7. Sam Warburton
8. Jamie Heaslip
9. Ben Youngs
10. Toby Flood
11. Shane Williams
12. Jamie Roberts
13. Brian O'Driscoll
14. Chris Ashton
15. Ben Foden

16. Matthew Rees
17. Adam Jones
18. Tom Palmer
19. Tom Croft
20. Mike Blair
21. James Hook
22. Tommy Bowe

With that in mind, it doesn't strike me as a vintage Lions team. There are a few too many players who are either very young and inexperienced, players only just coming of form or players who have seen there best days go. It doesn't quite have the same star power of the 2005 Lions tour, in which every name could be said with a fair bit of confidence. That in mind, it's lucky the Lions tour is not for another two years, where I'm sure many of those not-so-experienced players will have cemented their spots and shown their class.

besides having croft in twice, I think you've got it quite right. I'd stick Ferris on the bench instead of Croft Mk. II.
