Fly-half Michael Hobbs has joined the recent player exodus from Wellington to Auckland, after signing a two-year deal with the Blues.

Good pick up by the Blues. Hobbs has always looks comfortable at Super Rugby level (when he hasn't been injured). The Blues have plenty of cover at 10 now (Weepu, Anscombe, Hobbs, and probably Munro) - it probably means Ben Botica will miss out on a contract again (though could get a spot with the Wider training group). Hobbs is probably the backup 12 for the Blues too (or possibly the starting 12 with Nonu at 13): MacAlister is gone, Benson Stanley's rugby career is in doubt due to persistent head knocks, and Winston Stanley has signed with Force.

Hopefully Botica gets picked up elsewhere, otherwise we'll have another Mike Harris situation...

I heard somewhere that the Blues have won over SBW in favour of the Chiefs as well. So that will mean more horror for Hobbs as I can see a midfield combo of Nonu and SBW, if Benson Stanley is fine he will be the back up for SBW and having Anscombe, Weepu, Matheson and Smylie there, I don't see Hobbs playing much at First Five either. Because Lam will love to have a halves pairing og Weepu and Matheson.

Pretty average signing I reckon, no real need for Hobbs with the othe rblokes they have there. Plus he has had a pretty poor season so far (scored a nice try against Waikato the other night). He is an ok 12 and a worse 10. A lot of Wellington players are picking up contracts they don't deserve in my opinion.

Hes a handy player to have in the squad. Not starting material but i definitely think hes worth a super contract.

Interesting to note that hes another in the list of players not offered a Hurricanes contract, joining Jayden Hayward and Jason Eaton at this stage. I have no idea who Hammett and co are holding out for but they better be bloody good.
