SO! we are down to Chris Noakes and then we start asking the rest of the squad who's keen to give it a go.

anyone out there we can call in, we have a couple of young guys in the wider training group but seeing as our new frst choice was the third choice i think experience is what we're looking for

anyone international? i have a feeling given each NZ franchise carries two or three first fives most of the talent pool has been snapped up

If you ask really nicely we could be convinced to give you Matt Berquist.

Ben Smith could do the job at 10, not sure about goal kicking though

how far away is Lima Sopoaga? Think they have a bye coming up which will help...

Sopoaga is out for 2 months, so unless they've got the biggest bye in history they're stuffed. Tony Brown is a CALL though! Although he is old and angin...

Brown could certainly do a job for a month or two, as could David Holwell.

take another from the chiefs wider trainign group - Trent Renata
Did the Harbor 10 go overseas? Botica?

Botica is in France, possibly Harlequins-bound.
Mike Delany went to Japan, but they in the off-season now, possible option.

I remember Southland had a big five eighths, James Wilson, now in France. I can't recall how good he was, so would he be worth a shot? That being said, Bourgoin are still playing, so unlikely.
Stephen Brett wasn't always the most popular player, but also an option (Japan-based).

I was thinking about this. He has next to no rugby for a while now so he may be convinced (and he's certainly good enough). Other than that I don't know who. Noakes is alright but not really my choice of a starting 1st 5/8th of the conference leader. I'm betting the Highlanders are ****** they signed Colin "The Glass Man" Slade right now.

I'm the biggest T Brown fan around but last year he was coming off the japanese season so was match fit....apparently he is not an option

I heard sopanga was out for the season...

Moving Ben smith into first five just weakens fullback to barely strengthen first five (him not having played there much recently)
Keep the options coming!

What about Ripia?? he's no longer at the Force so he might not be busy at the moment mugging the general Aussie population...

That being said, Ben Baker is very good fullback cover, so I think Smith may be a shout.

It's actually not the worst idea. And in fairness Beale, Cooper and Cipriani have had left or burglary problems so Ripia was probably just trying to slot right in. He wouldn't be fantastic for the Highlanders by any stretch of the imagination, but he'd at least be an experienced playmaker.

Kurt Baker....I have a bad feeling, agaist the Tahs a few weeks ago when smith got injured Jamie brought on slade to fullback rather than Baker who was sitting on the bench. why would you bring on your just back from injury first five cover (and only there because we had no one else) rather than your "specialist" full back...either Jamie dont rate him anymore or his still not a hundred

said on the news the other night Joseph has confirmed we are looking over seas, they thought maybe japan which could be interesting to see someone new

I was wondering if we could lure back Nick evans just till the end of the season

That won't happen Harlequins would never let him go at such a crunch time in the season
