I actually did stop off at St Maarten only on a day trip on a Cruise. Lovely island. Much more developed compared to the other Caribbean islands I visited. But this was 10 years ago.

I actually did stop off at St Maarten only on a day trip on a Cruise. Lovely island. Much more developed compared to the other Caribbean islands I visited. But this was 10 years ago.

I hadn't realised that the main language spoken on St Maarten is English until a visit to The Hague, when I saw two young chaps meet by chance in the street. 'I've seen you back in St Maarten,' one of them said. This sent me to google and I found out that English is still the lingua franca there although it is in the Dutch Caribbean, because it was once under British rule.
