Ravenhill - 11/01/13 - 20:00

If we can't even beat Northampton... what chance have we got against Glasgow. ;):p:lol:

You do realise that if you now loose to Glasgow then its all your fault? :)

Cant see it happening though.

Clearly, **** all...

Well... I'm kinda half just winding you up. :)

I'm seeing a lot of the arrogance that was prevalent before the game vs. you good folks at Ravenhill and I am not liking it. It would seem our improvement in quality over the last few years is not without its cost - we now have more idiotic band-wagon jumpers in the support than ever.

I thought it was a terrible performance from Ulster in the second half. TBH I haven't been best pleased with Ulster this year despite the results... Only seem to be a one half team, Trimble is our best player atm and how is Diack (although to be fair to him I thought he was brilliant) or Henry playing ahead of Roger Wilson??? how can he only be an impact player surely Williams should be on the bench. Dirty match with a slow pace and Ulster got some very lucky tries that came out of nowhere. The decision making was dreadful, Jackson mostly (who's form has been dipping for the past few months or so) who made some horrible decisions and has seemed to forgetting how to kick. He wasn't alone, the decision to not go for a scrum on the 5 metre line when Ulster was in the ascendancy and then miss the kick. I know you have to close out the game but any other irish province would have scrummed. Also why did Pienaar not go for the conversion then kick the ball out on the full when he knew he had no time. I suppose I'll never be happy with an Ulster team, but we won't beat teams like Clermont or Toulon playing like this.

Injuries will **** us for the next match! We are screwed... I don't expect us to win...

Seriously?

There is not one part of that statement that is correct.

Also why did Pienaar not go for the conversion then kick the ball out on the full when he knew he had no time.

Paul Marshall correctly realised that the conversion didn't matter a crap and drop-kicked the conversion attempt to restart the game.

IMO Pienaar should have done the same thing with Jared Payne's try and said so to the folks around me on the terrace.

I don't know why he kicked possession away as the Glasgow lineout was pretty solid all night. Obviously he thought there was still time for the lineout and we could put pressure on it - otherwise he would never have kicked.

Think you're being very harsh there.

That looked like horrific conditions, not an easy night to play rugby, yet we came away with a solid victory against a good, very stingy team. That's reason enough to be happy!

We've got a young team that's shipped a lot of injuries, there's been a lot of disruption, these aren't easy times yet we're still winning - and that's all we have to do, nothing is decided yet. No, we're not turning in the sort of performances that turn over the best, but we're not playing the best. I can't blame them for not tearing into these games with a 100pc intensity when they don't need to, you can't play that sort of performance week in week out.

If Wilson wants to start ahead of Williams - and he's not a 6 and he's not a 7, so he shouldn't be compared to Diack or Henry - he needs to play better than him. He hasn't. Can't say fairer than that. And Jackson's low kicks were deliberate, bloody horrible to deal with on a night like that - maybe I need to rewatch, but I don't get the criticism he's shipped for this match or indeed a lot of the others. I think a lot of people underestimate just how good his passing and defence is.

I think it's time for Marshall to start with Pienaar at 10 to be honest. Williams is playing better than Wilson, so I see no reason why Wilson would start.
When he came to Ulster, Williams was probably an impact player, but he looks so much fitter and can last the 80.
If it was the HEC final however I would have Wilson starting, I think he would take less risks and is a little smarter.

Weather dictated that match a lot so I wouldn't be worried too much. We have a lot of injuries too which I don't think people realize. Stephen Ferris, Tommy Bowe, Johaan Muller, Dan Tuohy, Luke Marshall, Adam D'arcy, Chris Farrell. Possibly 6 of them would be in the starting 23.

Last match Wee P started his passing was genuinely out and out terrible and he got himself rightfully sin-binned in the most stupid manner to boot. Even if I thought Jackson had done anything to warrant dropping him, which I don't, I'd think long and hard before starting Marshall.

That said, we may not end up with much of an option...
