La Beaujoire - 12/01/13 - 16.40

Stupid stupid stupid penalties......for once, have to say Rolland having a good game!

Racing definitely their own worst enemy considering how dominant they've been at times.

Edit: Hernandez... oh dear.
Barkley was going over to take the kick when he put it dead, then just had his head in his hands afterwards.

Defeat from the jaws of victory but wonderful performance from Farrell and have to say, I have never seen him play as well as he did today!

Have to say, even with all our difficulties, and his undoubted talent, I would not like to see Hernandez come to BO at this stage of his career!! it was really over, for all intent and purpose, two or three years ago......

Fortunate win for Saracens, they certainly didn't play well enough to deserve 18 points in the first half but dumb Racing indiscipline gifted it to them without them working for it. They also got some luck with referee decisions when the scrum just flopped and neither side was dominant he gave Saracens the penalties.

Owen Farrell had a great day with the boot, 32 points, 11 from 11 successful kicks. Not often you see somebody kick 10 penalties.

However the Saracens attack was hardly that outstanding. Racing made 6 clean breaks to Saracens 1, double the defenders beaten, over double amount of offloads, and just under double amount of metres run. Ashton and Tomkins had poor games, both costing Saracens tries.

True JMH had a poor second half. But it certainly isn't "all over", his first half performance showed this. He isn't the player he was in 2007 and three years injuries effected him, but just because Stuart Barnes doesn't like him and he had a poor 40 minutes doesn't mean "it's over", he can still offer Argentina and Racing quite a bit, as shown by how he has created very good tries in both the Saracens Racing matches.

Also he is still a lot better player than Peyrelongue or Berquist. At least he has been a world class player, Peyrelongue has always been nowhere near international class and Berquist is even more injury prone than Hernandez and has been a flop of a signing for Biarritz. He's also better full back than Balshaw.

1. No arguments about the comparison of where Perylongue or Berquist have been in their careers as against JMH, but we need an 80 minute man with a future not a 35 minute man with a difficulty in competing when things go against you...as for Argentina, you are joking if you see him on the field at 10 as opposed to 15 or an assistant coach when I could take that seriously!

2. I would not swap Balshaw for him.......if only on attitude. I would also point out that Balshaw takes a great deal of interest in the backs around him and what they are doing and where. As shown by the last ridiculous kick where he went without thought, JMH does not.

PS...we do not need a prima donna.....we have enough of them....and he certainly strikes me as one!!

Key problem for Sarries was their defenders being seemingly incapable to trust the man inside of them, so far too many two on ones. Tomkims looked very poor. Farrell showing why he should be the England 10. Amount of poor lineout ball was surprising - both Botha and Borthwick were either throwing it behind the scrumhalf or in front of him with far too much force. Sarries backrow was very good.
