HB STUDIOS Q&A vol. 3

Pretty dissapointing really. I am grateful for a Rugby game finally coming out, but to be honest I would rather wait another year, and for that game to be fully licensed as well having realistic gameplay aswell as a variety of game modes. Manager mode should really be a priority!

Where does it say Rugby 2012 won't have online play?

And RL Live is great.

Yeah another game has been announced - there is a thread in "other gaming" about it on the SIDHE games thread. Keep this thread about Rugby 2012 please.

....

well i've got good news for those who want managers mode, online play and itm cup.... http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/games/4343602/Footy-fever-to-ignite-rugby-release
but it's being released by sidhe and they've produced the not so hot RL Live for ps3 so dont expect too much

Can't you read?

This is totally incorrect anyhow. Big Ant developed Rugby League Live, Sidhe had nothing to do with making that game. The only reason that game appears on the Sidhe forums is likely that they have a friendly association due to HES having distributed for both.

As far as keeping this thread Rugby 2012, I reckon we warn now that any further posts on unrelated games in this thread will be met with post deletion? What do you think Cymro, Dan?

I agree with that Craig. And more importantly, so does Jean-Luc Picard.

He's an agreeable chap Jean-Luc. In many scenes you can clearly see his copies of Rugby 2012 all the way through to Rugby 2112 on the shelf in his room. ;)

i was really looking forward to have an improvement on the Pacific Islands teams with including their war dance..

a Manager mode would definitely put rugby game up a level.

agreed... i was hoping that something would of been done about licensing islander teams...they have been seriously neglected

Seriously neglected? Would be great to see them fully licensed, but they are hard licenses to organise. So many of the players individual naming and likeness rights are tied up with clubs from all around Europe and the rest with Super 15 Clubs, then the third aspect is getting the rights for the country's team themselves. It's not easy, especially when sales figures of games to those countries doesn't exactly total up to a lot.

Well its not like its going to be worse than previous games...

Christ, you lot say that as if 06 and 08 were bad games. Even more amusing that the same people are getting a boner elsewhere when Rugby League 2 was so utterly appalling.

HB have a track record for delivering good rugby games - Better then Codemasters, Sidhe or any other development house can boast. I fully expect the elements will be vastly improved - All that was said is "passing will feel similar". That could be as simple as "Pressing X will make you pass to the left".

Yep the track record at this point suggests that the folks at HB are more in the know about how a Rugby game should actually feel, so it's too early to judge either way. Also to back you up, this nonsense of saying that it'll just be an updated Rugby 2006 or 08 as though that's an entirely bad thing is exactly that nonsense. HB have a history of not saying much, but delivering more, so it could well be that way again.

It's a bit like a team having fair-weather fans the way this is playing out. This project has every possibility of still being a cracker.

I actually don't quite agree with that. I personally enjoyed Rugby 06 and 08, but actually think that in terms of progression Sidhe have succeeded in "evolving" their ***les to a greater degree and that RL3 in particular is a superior ***le to Rugby 08.

Rugby League 2 had issues with the movement of players, but had better features and, while poorly implement, better gameplay ideas as well (the passing system and kicking were good ideas). With Rugby League 3 this was rectified and they supplied what was very much an all round package.

On the other hand, Rugby 06 and 08 were very EA like in that they had rather little in terms of substance that truly separated them. The addition of the offload was nice, but the fundamental issues holding the game back remained (the dreadful opposition AI and the one dimensional rucking), and its "World League" mode ran a poor second to Sidhe's franchise modes in RL2 and 3.

So yes, EA Rugby 08 was a good game, but saying that HB therefore have a "better track record in delivering good rugby games than ... sidhe" is purely a matter of perspective, and from mine in particular is pure hogwash.

Its probably better people are disapointed rather than hyping the game to buggery anyway, I will be extremely happy if its merely a rehashed 08, anything less and I will be highly disapointed. The Sidhe game has potential if they really tweak the RL Live engine, so much pontential in it, but boy did they stuff things up.

I think most people are just disapointed in the lack of feedback and updates from HB, I thought the way it was built up by the mods and the HB guys when it was first announce there was going to be so much more community involvement, can't blame us to be honest, we are all just excitied to be getting a rugby game.

That would be hard seeing as Sidhe didn't develop Rugby League Live. That game was made by Melbourne Studio "Big Ant". Sidhe will be using the Rugby League 3 engine if they're using any League assets, as that's the game they developed.

Looks interesting....
See the player models on his screen - Im gonna guess them in order from left to right.
John Afoa, Keven Mealamu, Jerome Kaino?, Corey Flynn and Joe.

As much as I am looking foward to Rugby 2012, A rugby game made in NZ, by kiwis makes me extremely hopeful. The more rugby games out next year, the better.
BTW, Sidhe didnt make Rugby League Live for PS3, Tru Blu entertainment did. Although Sidhe did make RL3 on Wii, which in my opion was pretty good, apart from the graphics and commentary (Sorry Andrew Voss, ur a nice guy, but Ray Warren craps all over ur commentary).
I think Sidhe lent Tru Blu some voices and motion capture for RLL tho.
Ill prolly get both games when they come out, on PC so I can patch it later :)

Na mate that would be Victor Vito
