Harlequins lock Lewis Stevenson signs for Ulster

Lewis Stevenson will return to Ulster for the 2011/12 season
Ulster have signed lock Lewis Stevenson from Harlequins on a two-year contract.

The 26-year-old, who will move after completing the season at Harlequins, is seen as a replacement for Ryan Caldwell who is leaving Ravenhill to join Bath.

Stevenson, who has represented Ireland at Schools, Under-19 and Under-21 levels, had an earlier spell with Ulster before joining Exeter Chiefs.

"It was always my intention to come back to Ulster with a bit of experience under my belt," said Stevenson.

"It is a great time for Ulster Rugby at the moment and it is brilliant to be able to come on board.

"This is going to be an exciting challenge for me."

nice to bring a local lad home
is he anygood?? has he been good for quins this year? iv never really heard of him
will he better than caldwell?? well hopefully more disciplined anyways

Caldwell is a bit like Buckley in Munster. Never lived up to his potential. A change is sometimes good for players and can be the making of them though. Downey went to Italy and is now playing well with Northampton with Mike Ross and Steenson being other examples.

On the Quins forum they seem to be a bit ****** off that Stevenson is leaving. Having not seen too much of him I can't comment on his ability but surely he'll be of more use than Ryan Caldwell who is now a bit part player. At the very least he should push to start which will up the game of Dan Tuohy.

Apparently he kept Tuohy out of the Exeter team. Make of that what you will. Has been injured for a lot of this season, but Quins fans seem to rate him.

All in all, I'm happy. Lose a liability, gain a promising lock.
