Massive hits by the Cardiff defence so far.. be interesting to see if they can keep it up for the full 80

Not a fan of this referee. Some decisions at the scrum has left me scratching my head.

Connacht 10 - 9 Leinster
The Connacht juggernaut rolls on.

Very frustrating to lose that, should have put up a score in the first half. Well done to Connacht for the way they came back into it though.

Wow Schmidt will have to take note. Zebo was unplayable tonight. Reports are Mamion and Buckley were superb tonight and well lads that seem unwanted have started the season excellent. What a great start to the season for Connacht and lads Mils still has to come in to it. Irish teams will be battling hard now. Regards props too we've come along way from 3 years ago and by all accounts Buckley and White were excellent.

Regards Munster we were good but Zebre were poor. JJ came on early and was a class act but Zebo and Smith especially were excellent. But well we got a BP win so the job is done.

Final score in Cardiff:

Blues 9 - 26 Ulster

Ulster were by far the better team, their defence made no mistakes and made the Blues backline look very clueless, which tbh is exactly what it is. Only Patchell really looked like sparking something, and everything creative that the Blues did came through him. I thought he hit the line very nicely from fullback, definitely in line for an AI call up if he keeps up these standout performances.
That said, the Blues defence was pretty excellent for the majority of the game, physicality has gone up a hell do a lot since last season. But, much like last week, silly mistakes gave Ulster 2 easy run ins. They can't be giving away silly tries, especially since they're not scoring many themselves.

Heard Tuohy smashed his arm and broke few bones? Awful luck as it was same arm he broke last season with Ireland.

What a first night in the Sportsground! Serious atmosphere. Luke McGrath has to be the start man now, Reddan was ****e!

Heard McGrath made big boohoo at end thought to cause a turnover? Haven't seen game but Reddan is Ireland's #2 scrum half in Schmidts eyes and surely that a factor.

It was Zebre.

He's been playing excellent all season and I was on about Marmion also. And Zebre weren't a top team but tough to break down and having seen most options this year for Ireland not many other back 3 players are doing well

Yeah, Patchell looked a cut above the rest (even including the Ulster backline tonight) - capable of finding space whereas everyone else was finding blind alleys. Deceptive speed and still adept with the ball when flat out.

Gatland would be mad not to have him in the AIs.

Given that Priestland is dross and Gatland doesn't like Biggar - he could go in at 10. Or even fullback if 1/2p isnt fit.

Nice summary.

I think all of this tinkering with the back line is unhealthy and the continuity isn't there at all. Allen on the bench was a mistake, Evans at 12 is completely ineffective and I question moving our form 10 to 15, despite him joining the line well at times. The management clearly do not know who the best combinations are, and whatever they are doing in terms of attacking training is not working at all. Feel the forwards gave the backs enough ball to at least score and run a few moves, but alas not.

Fear that we have Leinster next week who will definitely want to bounce back at home, followed by Connacht away.

Overall I'd say it's a pretty good outcome that I'm completely unsatisfied with that performance even though we ran out 17 point winners away from home. Our maul is a serious weapon, but we had so many poor handling errors and just not good enough at the break down. Cardiff actually had pretty good defence I thought, really shut down our backline from running too much on the 3g pitch.

Really impressed by Ludik also, we really aren't missing Payne at all.

Concur with this, mention should go to Matthew Rees who looked and was outstanding for the Blues tonight. Still think Hammett's tough fitness regime has caused the Blues in the short term to become fatigued, it will pay off in the long run I hope. Ulster are a different class mind, know when to take their opportunities, something Welsh regions as a whole still need to do.
