Greatest Live Band Ever?

I saw Muse at Reading back in 2002: it was an amazing experience - the stage was blacked out, Matt played the open chords to 'Apocalypse Please' just as lightning forked across the sky over the stage and the heavens opened; truly the most spectacular performance I've ever seen. Been to see them several times since, and I'm always amazed by how much noise the three of them seem to make!

And to top it all off straight afterwards we got the Foo Fighters! I'll never forget Dave Grohl coming out on stage by himself and playing 'Tired Of You'... and as for 'Everlong' - just beautiful.

Saw Oasis at Milton Keynes last year and it was as near to a religious experience as I've ever had. One of the best parts of it though was after they had come off stage they played a load of Beatles tunes - my friends and I were arm in arm with complete strangers bellowing out 'Hey Jude' - absolute magic.

One band I would literally kill to see live is The Who - they were brilliant at Glastonbury this year, in spite of the rubbish sound system.

However, the best band / performer I have ever seen was John Mayer - not many people I know have heard of this guy, and I can't reccommend his music highly enough. He's probably the best Blues guitarist of our generation, but he's also an incredible songwriter - go and buy 'Continuum' off iTunes - it's one of the best albums I've ever bought.

Also - Dream Theater. Yes.

I consider them a band...even though they use some turntables as well...the Beastie Boys. Man, they are so much better in concert than they are on CD. Just ridiculous in concert.

I saw Pearl Jam in a small theater while they were becoming famous, great show. On the flip side, I saw Smashing Pumpkins in a bar with 10 people before thier first CD. They were terrible live. Great music tho.

Definitely U2!

Nothing compares to them - you can even feel the atmosphere in their live dvd's. Awesome!

They definitely deserve a mention. I saw U2 more than a decade ago in Sydney and I can still remember it like yesterday.

One band I really want to see live is a Japanese group called sambomaster. Everyone who has seen them live can't stop talking about them. I doubt they will ever tour outside Japan though, so you will probably have to come over here if you want to check for yourself....

i think arctic monkeys can already be condiered one of the best live bands ever

its a ryt buzz to see them live

u2 live was super fun - especially the love tour with bb king. that was the best - the dog days of u2 - gotta love that stuff brings back memories (i was deaf for days afterwards).

Foo fighters. Wasnt a huge fan but hearing them live was another story. They are unbelievable

Muse. BEst i have personally seen live. Although im sure Queen wouldve been better, or the rolling stones,

The foo fighters just get better and better. I've been a fan since the first album came out and recently every else seems to be catching up. They've been on tv and the radio here in the uk loads of times in the last few months - it's been awesome!

A band that is truly awesome live and give one of the best shows out there.

pitchshifter are still the greatest live band i've ever seen. although they've faded a bit in recent years they were absolutely stunning in the early 2000's.

Ive seen quite a few bands in my time but the one that stands out by far is the U2 concert i saw way way back in 1992 when they played in Sydney.......bloody awesome , PLUS they were free tickets aswell :)

I saw Faith No More in a small (the bar was only 15-20m from the stage) nightclub in Queenstown in the late 90's. They were absolutely awesome, Mike Patton was swinging around the ceiling like a demented monkey and got to have a beer with guitarist big Jim Martin (he of the wild hair and funky glasses).

There have been so many great live bands in the past, but so few now days.

Of all the modern bands I have seen live I would say the best would be a tie between Coheed and Cambria (prog rock, Rush-ish sound) or Flogging Molly. Both bands are just spectacular live.

Dragonforce was also awesome live, in a bit of a cheesy way = )

Also, GWAR puts on one spectacular stage show, the music is OK.

I always felt it was a damn shame I wasn't born 30 years sooner, so I could have seen Queen perform, now I have to be satisfied with what I can find online.

And that's like showing a famished person a plate of succulent food, even letting them smell it, but not letting the person eat it.
Meaning: miles away from the real deal.
