So apparently Gloucester have removed the acknowledgement of Gotovtsev's international accomplishment, and apologised for offence caused...

This is baffling to me, Russia have been banned from competing by World Rugby, but to dimish international accomplishments because of this is silly.

Gotsovysev acheived international caps, because Russia are currently banned doesn't mean the Russian flag has to be erased from society lol.

I just don't understand this thought process, is it pure social media noise cowardice by Gloucester?

Have you read their explanation of it all? Because after I read that it comes across that Gotsovyev agreed/ thought it was the best idea due to the negative connotations of the flag.

I thought it explained their decision quite well.

Ye I read it, not sure I agree that Gotovtsevs agreeing means its OK, the same way sub minimum wage workers agreeing to 5 pound an hour is OK.

The negative connotations are that Russia invaded Ukraine? I just don't accept that removing his accomplishment does anything, even if some people, who are not involved with the situation, knows little about the situation, or has any affiliation to the situation, are offended.

Russia exists, he still represented his country, he deserves that acknowledgement. His shirt will now reflect a non international capped player.

The flag was never pro Russia

From what I saw it was because of the complaints of one guy on twitter, who had a bunch of really racist posts in his history

If he's genuinely OK with it then I suppose that's fine, but whole thing seems ridiculous

I know some Russians (who live over here) who are really not proud to be Russian right now, guess it's in a similar vain.

To be pedantic, as Russia are no longer recognised as an international team, then he doesn't have any caps right now. No more than a ba ba player could count theirs. If one wanted to view things like that.

I don't care either way, flag or no flag.

I mean I assumed it was a small number of people complaining, but thought more than one lol.

They've been suspended havnt they, meaning he still has his caps buy just can't add to them.

My point is, the flag represents international representation, and which country was represented. He has represented Russia, therefore deserves his recognition.

Unless I have the meaning of the flags wrong?

It's the country that's non grata not the player. If it's Glaws policy to acknowledge internationals in that way he should still receive that recognition perhaps with an a neutral all white flag or a composite of the countries he played against.
