Smart gumshields - chips, change and criticism
Players in the Six Nations are wearing smart gumshields - but what are they, and why have they been introduced?

I'd need to see what the onfield check is - the HIA was introduced because onfield checks of the time were simply terrible."Players will continue to wear the iMGs this weekend but will not be required to immediately leave the field for an HIA when their mouthguard triggers an alert to pitch-side doctors," a statement read.
"Instead, players will be checked by an on-field doctor after a trigger alert has been received. If the doctor has any concerns the player will then leave the field for an HIA.
"If the player passes an on-field check, they will still be subject to a full HIA, either at half-time or full-time."
Incredibly sad. What's worse is that it seems it is not that difficult to get CTE, with cases found in high schoolers.![]()

Especially those playing in the front row.Incredibly sad. What's worse is that it seems it is not that difficult to get CTE, with cases found in high schoolers.
If you told me that head clashes cause if, I'd say back rowers are the most vulnerable but you're right. All the big cases so far appear to be front rowers.Especially those playing in the front row.
I really struggle with these claims of sub concussive hits... infact by the very definition I gave my 8 year old daughter a fair few sub concussive hits thos afternoon, throwing a ball for her to practice heading, a bit of pad work to increase her confidence etc...![]()
