The Ligue Nationale de Rugby (LNR), the umbrella body representing France's leading clubs, has announced that the Top 14 salary cap will rise to â'¬10m (£8.6m) as of next season.
The new figure is a â'¬500,000 increase on the present limit but crucially youth players will no longer be included in the salary cap unless they earn in excess of â'¬50,000 (£43,000) a year in a move designed to encourage the development of fresh talent. The latter ceiling will be reviewed on an annual basis but the actual salary cap, that was raised from â'¬8.7m to â'¬9.5m this season, will be remain in place for the next three campaigns.

Presuming they spend the whole 10 million on eligible players' salaries under the new rules...love to know what Toulouse spend the other 25 million in their budget on, Clermont 15m, Stade France, Toulon and Racing 12m etc...............unless their huge academies account for huge sums which they do not!!

So in cricket they buy IPL teams for their kids. In football the Arabs buy football teams in France for their kids and in rugby they buy rugby teams for their kids to have fun with.

Not sure that you know too much about ownership of French rugby clubs really.......ST = Aerospatial, Clermont = Michelin, Stade France = Parisienne, Biarritz = French, Racing = French, Perpignan = French etc I suppose you could think the owner of Toulon, Mourad Boudjellal, is an "Arab" but as far as I am aware he is French and was born in Toulon!
