Fifa has agreed that the England, Scotland and Wales teams can wear poppies on black armbands during the upcoming internationals.

Although I am not dissappointed that they will be wearing these, I am dissappointed that FIFA folded so easily.

I can only imagine what the reaction would be like if the Germans/ Argentinians/ Iraqis did something similar to remember their fallen.

And why has this become a blooody fashion statement? Especially in football? Not even a decade ago most could nae care less about wearing poppies and remembering, its like a statement of 'Look at me, I'm patriotic' in most cases. I bet 90% of those wearing poppies don't even know why it is the poppy being worn.

I refer to why the poppy is being worn, instead of another flower/ object.

The FA shouldn't have asked permission. They should have simply turned up on the pitch with the poppy on it, **** all Sepp Blatter can do then.

The fact that you have to ask permission is the main reason a lot of people are fed up with football. All the rules and restrictions. A couple of years ago, Cameroon was given a fine by FIFA because their kit didn't meet de requirements. It was a one-piece kit and FIFA banned it after giving Cameroon a 6 points deduction, making it impossible for them to qualify for the 2006 World Cup. How f-ed up is that?

That is typical FIFA!

Given that the Dutch were allowed to play in a special anti-racism kit of black & white, surely political statements have been allowed in the past...

Anyway, glad to see common sense has prevailed. What is also important is that England players who may not want to wear it don't have to either. I wear a poppy myself out of love for my grandparents, but I can see why some people don't. Maybe our politicians could spend some time remembering the total waste of life and resources that the British military has been since 1945.
