Favourite 5 & Least Favourite 5 Features of our Games

How do you mean? You can turn them down on 08 you know? And knock ons are part of the game, I didn't see any stupid ones when I was playing.

I mean the way dey look, lke the players is like a statue wen they knock it on, looks stupid.

1. set plays in rugby 04
2. stadiums were really good
3.the NZ haka (the next game should have the other pacific nations haka's)
4.kicking mechanics.
5.world league.

5 least favourite.
1.rucks (i want to see counter rucking and players trying to steal the ball before the ruck has started)
2. fend-off,step animations.
3.cut out passes were slow and ineffective.
4.NO chip kicks.
5. there was no dencive structure. AND fix the inside passes.:)

Please scrap the world legue all together...Anyone who has played fifa or madden would concur that world legue has nothing on the manager mode or franchise mode of those two respectively, please rather have a manager mode but that is good, if it wont be good do not have any, including the world legue because we all want the game to be as realistic as possible and lets be honest, world legue would only happen when hell freezes,so please rather have a calender where you play domestic competitions such as currie cup, super 15 etc. basically like fifa because what annoyed me with world legue once you had worked your way to the elite group and had all the good players on your team no one could beat you and you would beat all the teams by 20 points or more because all the good players of the other team where now on yours, therefore it became boring after that!! MANAGER MODE would be way better!! but only if its made to be good

5 Favourite things

1. Just the fact there was a rugby game I could play!
2. Lions Tour
3. Star players
4. Multiplayer
5. Stadiums and crowd noice was good

5 least things

1. Players changing direction far too fast, when playing with mates we actually had to make up a rule where you couldnt just serve from one direction straight into another making it impossible to tackle
2. Getting stats/positions/apperance completely wrong, I remeber Spies being a flyhalf or something and players did not look anything like they do in real life
3. Far too easy to turn a ball over without much skill involved on the controllers part
4. When players are played out of position they couldnt catch a ball at all, especially dificult when a yellow or red card is shown
5. Line outs where too predictable against the computer, maybe adding more options as well as dummy lifts could improve this as well as having star locks and forwards who are line out specialists such as Matfield and maybe Croft who will be good at stealing line outs ect.

Even with all the faults of rugby 08 it was still a great game to play! Cant wait to see how good 2012 will be!

I think that the positive things were:
-lions tour
-licenced super 14
-set plays

But there are a lot of features in the game that MUST be corrected
-difficulty, although i prefer to play multiplayer
-the rucks (its been said tons of times)
-something more tactical that none of the games had and its not been said is that you cant organize the defense line after a formation. therefore, is TOO EASY to break through with a few crosses. you should be able to organize and move the entire line of defense before you select an specific player to go and tackle the ball carrier. this would make a HUGE diffenrence and i hope you read this and try ti put some thought on it.

thinks i liked most

-Set plays
-Lions Tour
-Punt Kicking mechanics

things i liked least

-Grubber Kick needs work
-No real chip over the top option with ball in hand
-quick penalties are terrible
-Dummy Pass
-Game way too easy

Refreshing to see interest in fan's opinions =]

5 Good things:
-The line-out controls on the ps2 (using the analogue stick to throw) as opposed to the xbox controls.
-The accurate (at the time) teams
-The create a player function enabling self team updating
-Tackle timing affecting the power of the tackle, resulting in off the floor tackles
-Authentic playing styles in teams, i.e. Newcastle play a very kicking game with Wilkinson

5 Not so good:
-Turnovers seemed to be heavily in England's favour in 06
-Rucks very unrealistic
-Rules were out of date, in 06 there was no penalisation for off the ball tackles
-Seemed that offside was only given to user controlled players
-Difficult to tell where ball will land in 06

Would like to see a system where team information could be updated through online play, perhaps with game updates?

Loved the whole series Glen and Rugby 08 is still being used by myself and friends to get our fix, so can't wait for this! For info, I played all versions on PS2 (then moved to a PC using PS2 pad to get the mods)

Mine would be:

Favourite
- World league series (but would agree it needs to be more like manager mode in FIFA 10)
- I thought rucks and mauls were pretty OK on the whole and so glad you didn't have to bash your pad to death to try and win the ball (as happenned in other rugby game attempts). The scrum half needed more freedom to break at the right time though!
- Rugby 08 was a lot of fun in 2 player mode as you couldn't predict the AI. Online for future is a must!
- The fact that people on here were able to mod teams and keep it fresh

Least favourite:
- The high tackle button was a bit of a waste because it always ended up in a penalty - why not make it an impact tackle where if you get the right player and the timing spot-on you can strip the ball or hit them back a few yards and increase turnover possibility . If you get it wrong, you risk getting it wrong completely - high risk, high reward!
- Randomness of tackle breaking - instead this could be a combination of power (speed x mass) / mixed in with fatigue to see who wins the collision. If you ran a powerful forward into say, Ronan O'Gara it was too even a contest and needs to reflect power.
- A miss pass requires your to hold down the button - why not employ the options used in the Rugby League franchise where an icon appears over players heads (in the same way as the set piece in your series) so that you can try and throw a miss 2 or 3 if you want to - but if your pass isn't good it may go to ground or worse get intercepted....
- Right hand stick for side-step / charging - needs to be a bit sharper, I'm not sure what the solution is but it didn't really work for me.
- No online mode or official update patches - please allow this wonderful community to help with keeping the game up to date. I would be willing to pay a few quid extra every now and again if it meant getting up-to-date teams, stats and so on. Why not use these guys to help keep it up to date and compensate those who contribute their time and effort (not sure if you were planning to do this anyway)

Really can't wait for this game!

5 Favourites:
-Players could actually run onto the ball, instead of always starting from a stand still
-Player likeliness was mostly accurate
-ankle tap feature, provided a realistic last-ditch effort
-Wide range of available teams in 08, eg junior all blacks
-Fight/scuffle scenes during gameplay

5 least favourite:
-Animation in some areas, for example the ball being passed in front of a player and then just magically teleporting into the players hands.
-intercepts. They never seem to work properly, either the player is unaware or the ball ends up just going right through the player trying to intercept.
-Very repetitive gameplay, the defence took to the same defensive pattern each time, meaning you could predict how to break through the line every time, the same way.
-Inside balls were too hard to perfect due to defense running the same patterns every time.
-All players have exactly the same style. For example id like to see a unique feature where every player looks different in the way they run, step, pass, kick etc.

Thanks for this opportunity to give some feedback, hope it helps!

From Rugby 08

5 Favourites:
- World League, best part of the game was buying players to create a great team. Could be made better by having a larger variety of players to buy (in 08 it was always the same guys with minor variations) and getting job offers from teams in all divisions not just the one you are in, hence why it got boring once in the top division.
- The better goal line defence made it a challenge to score when near the line and also made it really exciting when defending your line as you could keep a team at bay for many phases.
- World Cup mode, could have been made better by being able to randomise the groups.
- Set plays, a create your own mode would be awesome.
- The camera angles and replays, a great variety of cameras to play the game and near perfect replay feature.

5 Least Favourites:
- The kicking, the star players (carter, wilkinson, o'gara) can kick it for miles and always land it perfectly never out on the full.
- The AI when attacking (never goes to the blind side, more often than not tries to do a set play, kicks drop goals way too often especially carter and wilkinson) the AI defence is good, realistic to get round and through mid pitch and tough to beak through at the try line.
- In the set kick defence the wingers never drop back far enough and always move forward as soon as the scrum half passes resulting in them never being in a good position to take the kick when carter, o'gara or wilkinson belt it down field.
- The apparent randomness of the rucks, and the fact that when you make a break and get tackled you usually lose the ball even if there are backs to support.
- The scrum half is too slow to get to most rucks, scrum half runs do nothing and if you try to pick and drive you lose the ball on the second attempt.

Overall the music is good, the game play is fun, plenty of thing to keep the game interesting, the mechanics are a bit two dimensional but nothing as bad as the rugby league games (hopefully you know what i mean). I cant wait for Rugby 2012 and if its like rugby 08 with better graphics, better game mechanics and with most of the bad points raised in these posts fixed then it will be a fantastic game. Cant wait for screenshots and/or demo videos.

Good to see that HB seem to want to do this properly and dont want to make the mistakes that the rugby league games have made. good luck HB and good work for talking to the fans.

4 favourite things
- celebration by players when they win championship
- new world cup challenge mode
- more set play options
- more tactical awareness by players with set abilitys

5 least favourite
- sidestep and fend can make pplayer easier to catch (shouldn't it be the other way round?)
- crowds. other sporting games like madden have a more animated crowd
- competitions, sevens rugby just made the olympics so maybe incorporate the sevens world circuit? and also would love to see ITM Cup(NZ), Currie Cup(SA), Heineken Cup(Europe).
- in world cup challenge mode from 08 it was fun playing the old games but wouldnt it be fun if the teams were from that era and also the uniforms? probably very difficult but would be fun to see some old school uniforms and players.
- need a better interpretation of the laws and also upgrade the brekdown area maybe have the option to toggle the analog to dis-posses the opposing team?

Likes:
- Stadiums
- Different kicking animations (could have alot more though)
- Lions tour
- Team moves (again could be more)

Dislikes:
- Seeing a player like Shane Williams dump tackle of prop, very unrealistic.
- Not a fan of world league , would much rather see a career mode with the real world wide leagues.
- If you are unable to get liceneses for certain things, maybe include a editor
- Not enough animations i.e. tackling
- Maybe set piece move creator, from things inlcuding rucks, line outs and scrums

Favourites:
Lions tours
World League
Stadiums
Different kicker's routines
Licences for Aviva Prem, S14, World Cup etc

Dislikes:
Limited players on transfer market in World League... you should be allowed to bid for any player from any team and have to bod more or less depending on who they are, length of contract left and how well your team are doing.
Limited choice of teams to start world league with... you should be able to start with any team you like, even if it is with default players (but your own team's should be easier to sign than other players) as it's frustrating having to keep hoping for the right 'job offer' for the team you support to come along.
Licences for Top 14, Magners League and perhaps even NPC & Currie Cup teams, or even Championship teams would make it a whole lot better for me.

Favs:

1) Good fun gameplay
2) Licences
3) Only rugby game around
no 4 or 5

least fav:

1) rucks and scrums don't seem to be based on attributes, no way to contest
2) World League is awful. Please make a manager mode
3) The menus were a disgrace. looked horrible and took ages to navigate
4) Too easy (beat New Zealand with Portugal 45-0..)
5) Not enough variety in set plays, perhaps encorporating a Madden style play selection before line-outs + scrums may work...
5)

Top 5 things about rugby games

1. The added quick lineouts in rugby 2008
2. The on pitch sound effects
3. The kicking game (punt, drop kick etc)
4. The stadiums were realistic
5. Transfer of players in world league

5 Least favorite things

1. Lack of player creation options, nowhere near the range in games such as madden. (official boots, sleeves, tattoos etc)
2. Lack of tournaments and games modes (there should be (curry cup, 7's, ITM cup etc)
3. No video referee, (instead of being tackled mid dive it should be a last gasp defensive tackle, trying to drag him into touch, not making him suddenly stand up)
4. Small range of tackles, we would see the same tackles over and over again, (games such as "backbreaker", all the tackles are different)
5. NEEDS TO BE MORE LIKE RUGBY!! (not just leaving on rucks, no ridiculous-cartoon high tackles, add a bit of blood-blood bin, little penalties (stopping quick lineouts/penalties), stamping etc. And please no more gangs of the entire 15 following the ball in a group)

Top 5 things

1. Challenge mode (change the unlocks to unlock old players and not stupid stuff)
2. 08 better general play (graphics , kicking , drop goals)
3. Stadiums better
4. world league was smart idea but needs to improve
5. quick lines outs

5 Least things

1.Lack of tournaments (itm, Heineken , 7's , curry cup etc)
2. the ratings and stats was bogus needs improvement (teams + players)
3. more realistic play of rugby (every team different defense style and offense style)
4. yellow cards , red cards (blood bin , fights , shoulder charge)
5. more unlocks (old rugby players)

Likes:

1) Deferent kicking styles ( but when you sub someone on the field he goes back to the boring old kicking style )
2) Stadiums
3) Weather / Wind / Wet fields
4) Most players looked good

Dislikes

1) Stats was very wrong ( Flanks that can play flyhalf and wing.. When that player never played any other position then flank in hes life. )
2) Career mode ( Can be improved a whole lot. Take be a Pro from fifa for a great example to improve the game )
3) Commutators saying same thing over and over and over gets kind of lame after the 500time they said it..
4) No lan support... For playing with pc.
5) No Legendary players and All time 15 teams. Something like that would really be nice.

Best features

Set move plays
defence set plays
challenge mode
range of different tackles

Bad things :(
Rucking,no quick balls
low skill move animation eg side stepping
there should be a clear distinction between props and wingers, seems as though wingers could just run through props.
commentry, said the same things over and over again
lack of tournement options

Has nothing to do with this thread but,, there should be a mode like fifa 11 'ultimate team' im sure you know what it is. :) i would be glad to see that in the game

Best:

1 - World League - 100% the best game mode - kept you coming back when you cared about your team, does need expansion and added depth though.
2 - Graphics - I think, theyre fine and dont need much work - gameplay is way more important
3 - Large number of world club sides
4 - Co-op play
5 - World cup

Bad:

1 - Rucking and Mauling mechanics
2 - Difficulty mode seemed to just make it hearder to win rucks/mauls
3 - The ability to design your own tournaments - like a customisable league for a group of friends to play in
4 - lack of online play
5 - Lack of a new game for so long! :)

Good:
1. World League is by far the best part of the games, needs an option to pick your fave team, rather then who sucks at the time.
2. Graphics weren't that bad, doesn't matter as long as the gameplay is solid.
3. Licenses were good :)
4. Dirty Play.
5. Impact players

Bad:
1. Rucks and mauls were horrible, like honestly, they were by far the worst aspect of the game, they seemed like a chore rather than an integral part of Rugby.
2. The game was far to easy, when you're getting 50 - 0 against the "Hardest" team in the game on the "Hardest" difficulty.
3. Lack of online play.
4. Lack of player customization, player body types, everyone looked the same size.
5. Tackling Animations, there were about 8 total? only two looked realistic.
