Stocking up on South Africans. Combined with the Rebels signing every Kiwi cut from the ITM Cup, I fail to see how this will benefit Australian rugby in the long term.
The funds put into these 'clubs' would be better spend working on a viable domestic competition, where they can develop their own talent for years to come.
I think the ARU have been banking on an 'if you build it, they will come' philosophy for Perth and Melbourne.

Don't forget about Jake White with the Brambles.

He's been spotted at the WP training grounds. Probably looking for some more possible signings.

And the Tahs. First Sarel Pretorius and now Jacques Potgieter

You should see the French...

(here fishy, fishy)

Outstanding. I don't mind the Brumbies as much, they have some good lads they've brought through. Same with Reds and to an extent the Waratahs. I just feel the Aussie are overhyped. Sure they have 'X-Factor' players, but they are very fragile right now, lacking consistency and reliability. I struggle to think of a Wallaby who I would take over one of ours.

Yep.

Buying in overseas players to fill your Super Rugby teams because you don't have the necessary player quality at home is a recipe for trouble further down the track, and it tells me that Australia have too many Super Rugby teams. The Wallabies were strong when they had only three, and have grown steadily weaker ever since they added, first the Force then the Rebels.

Paying out megabucks to convert mungoballers when the money would be better spent on player development just add further insult to an already substantial injury.

We also have to deal with the usual whinge of 'Rugby is the Xth most popular sport' etc...
Sure Folau is a good signing and all, but I bet he was a heck of a lot cheaper than say Inglis or Hayne. (The only two ARL players I can name)
Not to mention AFL will always dominate Victoria.
It's not as if they are recruiting good talent either. I'd hardly call Chris Heiburg or Marcel Brache people to build your team around.
The best signing I think is Jason Woodward, who could very well be a Wallaby down the line.

Jarrod Hayne + Rugby Union = Lolz all the way to the bank and back to the NRL. He is a joke

Buying a player like Folau might put bums on seats in the short term, however, in the long term, filling the places in Super Rugby teams that are empty (because the ARU have done a crap job on player development) with little more than journeyman foreigners is going to eventually come back and bite you in the wallet.

Yep, and doing it now will only mean you'll have to do it again down the line.
The ARU gave the ARC one year before scrapping it. No attempt at refining it, nothing. How they are so highly ranked is mind boggling, I just can't see it lasting.

If they lose to South Africa twice by 15+, that will put them in the drop zone on about 83 points, just ahead of France on 81. Drop either of the Argentina games, and they will fall Below Wales into 6th

As they should. Except Boks aren't as good as think they are. Meyer is PdV without the quotes and stache.
I wonder how bad things would have to get to can McKenzie. The way I see it, they can't. You can fire a coach at most two years before a WC. No way they would fire him in less than a year, and Summer 2014 isn't enough time.

Not that I am saying they should at all, purely hypothetical.

Apart from he has a better win rate whilst rebuilding a side than PDivvy had with an established side of World Cup winning greats at their peak handed to him. I don't think people fully realise how much PDivvy was a crap coach. He had a great side gifted to him, they really should have been up with New Zealand challenging for #1 spot for most of his reign and come RWC time but he lowered the side down to the rest of the chasing pack with no wide attack and real head scratching selection. An awful appointment.

Div was handed a world class side and did nothing of note really. The win in NZ was nice as well as the Lions win. Meyer is better, I was exaggerating, but he seems insistent on certain players.
Taute would probably be selected if fit, but there must be a better wing and FB than Kircher and Basson.

ouch... this thread hurts

Shota Horie, woodward and fuglistaller are the only overseas players at the rebels. Horie is a test hooker and the two wellington boys are hardly "cut from the itm cup"
The rebels have shown nothing but improvement in their 3 years, have performed better than expected and have some good young home grown players coming through.

it's a joke to refer to the as the "rabble"

True, they have been improving. I like Woodward, he could be a Wallaby soon.
The Rebels brought in many foreigners. Delve, Cipriani, Saffy, Robinson, King, Vuna, Rokobaro.
They have reduced the number but there were loads when they were formed. I still think it was premature to introduce them straight into SR, but there is no domestics league.

Rabble comes off as harsh, I apologise. I use it jokingly, like calling the Lions the Kitties, Kings the Queens, Farce. Some call the Sharks the Guppies. Not intended derogatively.

true, although Vuna and Rockobaro are actually "Aussies" in that they've lived in Australia for a while as opposed to Delve, Cipriani and co who are straight out imports.

nah no worries, i'm not that offended. just passionate about getting behind a team with a lot of competition from other codes.

They Also had Jabba the Hut (Kurtley Beale) and Justin Bieber who surely has to be imports, one from Hollywood and one from Canada...
