TONY Rowe has revealed Exeter Chiefs will make a six-figure profit from their first season in the Aviva Premiership.

The chief executive estimates the Sandy Park outfit will have a turnover in excess of £8m for the year.

And the profit comes after club officials have deducted £300,000 for ground improvements this summer â€" including the possibility of increasing capacity by a couple of hundred.

i was writing a post in another topic on this a few days ago before my internet gt cut off. in short, i was saying that we shouldn't expect premiership rugby clubs, whose attendances are on a par with League 2 football clubs, to turn a profit when the guys on their payroll are some of the world's best players...

that said, I said it was the heartland clubs who aren't financial nightmares... Gloucester, Northampton, Leicester... and now Exeter. Keep it up!!!

The fact that this is newsworthy is a damning indictment of the Aviva Premiership.

Its a worrying statement about sports as a whole.... Football and Rugby in the UK rely on benefactors. It's not just limited to English rugby, I'd put alot of money on the French big spenders not turning profits and, with the current incomers, the Irish provinces relying on the support of the IRFU to maintain their spending levels.

However this does bring us to Exeter and I think congratulations are due! Not only have they made a really solid start to their first season in the AP but they are turning a profit. Well done Exeter and it looks like you are here to stay.
