England Six Nations Squad 2025

Will Joseph is a random one - been mostly average and barely played. Also apparently headed to Gloucester so he'll never play for England obvs.

Beard is ahead of him at 13 for Quins and actually in the England squad already
Yes Joseph is....and i accept that i just think theres talent there that needs to come out. Hes like his brother...injury prone. BUT that will depend on how he goes the rest of the season. That will be the case for most of the hopefuls really....
Beard should travel to Argentina definately.

Lawrence might make the Lions...but not a given. If he does go, it leaves us with Slade and even he may be rested..unless SB wants some experience over there. So there WILL be some new centres travelling.

Earl's stats:
Tackles: 6 completed 5 missed
1 turnover
12 carries for 63 metres

So pretty poor defence but 2nd only to Marcus in numbers of carries, and a 5.25m metre average, for a forward, is decent - can't remember if he did any kick returns or anything that might have boosted the metres?
Didn't realise he'd missed that many tackles. That's poor from a back row.

Carried very well though and vital turnover at the end which led to the winning try.

So a bit of reflection now that everything's calmed down a bit.

Very well done to get the result. Looking at the way everyone else is going 4 wins should now be realistic.

But let's also be honest. France chucked that away through some dire handling and a bench of 9 year olds. 95 times out of 100 they'd have won that. But fair play to us for staying in the fight and finding a way.

But, parking the late drama, I actually thought our first half in Dublin was more persuasive and authoritative.

So onto the cast list…..

1. Genge. I'd still like to see more from him. Our pen count was low but he still managed to give away 2. If there were prizes for running sideways he'd win every time. You don't throw away his level of experience lightly but I'm hoping Baxter can back up his cameo on Saturday.

2. LCD. Darts never perfect but fine, he's aggressive and keeps his place.

3. Stuart. Has nailed down the shirt. Not destined to be an all time great, but going OK. Brain fade to give France possession for their first try.

4. Itoje. Thought he was fine. He was skipper so takes some credit for the result, but was only seconds away from brickbats for another narrow defeat.

5. Martin. Did his stuff OK but want to see more. One line out went straight through his hands, can't recall (m)any others thrown to him.

6. Curry. Outstanding, did exactly what the hype says he can. Lost one own ball line out at the front when the French jumper got in front of him. Looked to be struggling with an injury towards the end.

7. Earl. Better, but still not convinced that he's quite where he'd want to be. Curry (both) better than him at 7, Willis better at 8. Might find himself on the bench where he'd be a great option.

8. Willis. Decent, but not earth shattering as you'd expect for his first proper start. Having a powerful 8 is a good thing though and we should invest in him and CCS.

9. Mitchell. No competition for the shirt. Went fine but defensive stats lousy for the second week in a row.

10. F Smith. Shaky start, not an 80 minute performance but grew into the game and had a calm head when it counted. Suspect players around him may 'get' him more than M Smith.

11. Sleightholme. Nice to have some gas in the team. Narrow like everyone else in defence. Deserves more chances. Bad hairstyle.

12. Slade. Missed one bad pen to touch otherwise I thought OK if unremarkable. Definitely better in more open games.

13. Lawrence I thought went pretty well again. Shirt is his for the foreseeable. He's a strong guy, but just need to keep reminding ourselves that he's not an out and out bosher.

14. Freeman. Much better, well done. We just need to find ways of keeping him involved.

15. M Smith. Jury has to be out, but he's got to be given the rest of the championship. An undercooked Furbank shouldn't be rushed back.

Bench. Impactful, for once. Well done them, and also to SB for not just blindly using them all.
I still think LCD's throwing is too unreliable.

isn't Joseph a 13 though, ideally
We need to solve the 12 problem, before injury Hartley looked pretty good, one to keep an eye on if he can stay fit.

Hard to disagree, although Chessum I think came on at pretty much the same time as JG basing it soley on that game might be unfair @TRF_Olyy what's his Darts been like for Sale recently?
Mostly decent, but had a few big wobblers - looked to be getting way better this season and then the run up to the 6N it dropped off again

Didn't Borthwick have the chance to play Marcus and Care and then Mitchell and F smith off the bench and chose to do the opposite. Could of been better for both combos while we settled into a style.

On earls missed tackles, I'd like to know how many were him shooting out the line on command to just be a nuisance rather than being supposed to make the tackle.

He is....but we need other options away from just Lawrence for back up etc. Beard will be amongst the first choices to trial I think.

And to be honest I'd like to see how often Lawrence was actually playing 12 on Saturday.

Hartley was looking decent. Need him to take that Saracens starting shirt. Be interesting to see if Atkinson travels. If he doesn't there's clearly something the England management don't see..and they have the spreadsheets

We all giving up on Atkinson, Dingwall and Ojomoh already?
Too old?
Dingwall is just too lightweight for a modern 12.
Atkinson maybe and Ojomoh is a possible, but is not playing regularly for his club.
Beard and Northmore are bigger and more suited to the style England want to play, as it means less work needed from the forwards.

I don't understand the negativity around Slade if I'm honest. He's the defensive leader akin to Fikou for France and in such a position requiring high level of Rugby IQ™️, it would be foolish to throw in someone simply for 'go forward'. I admit he has lost pace but the system under Fin will see him more involved. The missed touch can't be dwelled upon as getting that extra inch down the line is why they give him the ball. He can cover 10 and his goal kicking has been exceptional in moments of high tension. Did France get through him and Lawrence? No. Let it grow

Personally don't really think Ojomoh belongs in the conversation until he's either moved club or pushed ahead of Redpath. I know we're a bit desperate but he's made 4 starts at 12 this season; that just isn't enough to be pushing for international honours yet.

Dingwall and Atkinson kinda fall into the same category as each other for me in that I don't think either of them would be actively **** at international level but neither would be particularly impressive either. Certainly can't really see either of them making the shirt their own. Both have done enough at club level to deserve a chance to prove otherwise though and I hope to see them get that chance in Argentina and during the autumn.

Northmore I think is perhaps slightly more talented than the two above but also slightly older and way more injury prone. Unfortunately I think his injury record is enough to disqualify him from the conversation as he just won't be able to put a run of games together to really prove himself more worthy than the younger guys. I do really like the way he plays the game though and would be very happy to see him get a chance should his injury woes sort themselves out.

I've been saying it for a while but Hartley is the guy who I have highest hopes for. It's probably fair to say that he's currently the least experienced/established of the bunch but he's also the one who I think has the raw attributes to actually make a real impression at international level. He's got the size, athleticism and skill level; now he just needs to start putting it all into practice. Stylistically I think he could be our answer to Jordie. He's still a good couple of years off though (at least).
