England 2025/26

Absolutely pathetic from the RFU, genuinely

Hopefully the emergence of multiple genuine 12s means he won't be selected, but I won't be cheering England on if he's in the side
I generally am of the opinion you play to the rules, if he's eligible the fine but did we change an unfair rule to make him eligible or did we change it purely to make him eligible?

Why would he get picked? He'll be 30, uncapped and whilst a good player, is he really going to be so far ahead of Ojomoh Dingwall Atkinson that it's worth stunting their development?

For me it isn't, if he had an English parent and was captured by an a game I'd be fine with it but he hasn't at all.

Purely to make him eligible
It applied to such a tiny number of players and he's the only one that's on anyone's international radar

Clip going around of him saying he'd rather 5 Bok caps than 50 England, but that he'd play for England for the money

Get him called up Borthers!

Dont blame BJVR for wanting SA caps over England caps and i don't mind him choosing to play for England for the money...short career and one injury can end it all so get as much as you can. If thats England or play in France or what ever.

BUT....what I do have a problem with is changing the criteria so he can play, and Borthwick picking him knowing all these details, inc he's doing it for the money.

Brilliant news. I don't see him getting in now unless the current centres end up injured anyway (and if there is such a shortage, I don't see why people shouldn't be grateful for quality cover in an emergency) so we can all put the pearls down to avoid further whitening of knuckles. The rules at the time were rubbish.

More importantly he will now be an EQP for the PREM, which helps. It was also rumoured that BJVR would be leaving for a different competition should the RFU appeal fail, the league and Bristol are better with him in than without.

Happy days all round.

Yeah I saw that clip it’s disgusting the RFU even bothered after that

Considering knives are fully out, why do you think that is?

🤔
SB will have been really keen to see him a year ago, as the cupboard was bare....so he has probably pushed this and these processes takes time. But in the meantime we've now suddenly built up a stable of 12/13's who offer huge hope so...hopefully Van Rensburg isnt selected.

I don't really see what you're arguing in favour of here. If the Boks don't want him why the **** should we?

What having the balls to say in public you only playing for a country for money

It’s like I would honestly rather it wasn’t said at all even if it’s true

And despite this, the RFU still funded lawyers to push back and reverse at world rugby decision. Screams, desperation.

EQP credits? Keeping one of the league's best players in the competition? Providing depth to England internationally, should it be required? An opportunity/reward for a top bloke?

Let's not pretend the general response to this isn't a bit OTT.

It's abit OTT as he hasn't been picked, I think it's the situation of chasing foreign players. As I said in another post I dont blame him for chasing the money, he's a good player but at 29 with no experience is he really going to be picked anyway when available unless last min call up after an injury crisis.

IMO:
It's one thing to take advantage of a rule that exists.
It's another thing to actively seek to exploit a rule that exists.
It's another thing again to actively seek an exemption to a rule that exists.

I've no problem with selecting a player who becomes available. This is generally the English approach
I have a problem with hunting a player with a view of making them available. This is generally the Scottish approach (and has been the Welsh/Irish approach) that I mock.
I have a major problem with seeking an exemption in order to make a player available. I'm unaware of any other examples of this happening - it's a legalised version of the Shane Howarth et al saga.
And that's without even thinking about alternative players.
