Edinburgh Head Coach Rob Moffat insists new signing Jack Gilding will provide "rivalry" for a place in the front row next season.
Plymouth-born Gilding arrives at Murrayfield after spending the past two seasons at Worcester.
The 22-year-old, who qualifies to play for Scotland through his paternal grandmother, will now go up against the likes of internationals Allan Jacobsen, Geoff Cross and Kyle Traynor for a propping place.
And Moffat is expecting big things from Gilding, who follows Alex Grove to the club from the Warriors.
