Edinburgh reject an approach by Saracens to play a Heineken Cup pool game between the teams in South Africa. The Scottish side's managing director Craig Docherty said the proposal was not "commercially compelling". The sides meet at Murrayfield on Saturday in the opening Pool One fixture of this season's tournament. But the English club were keen to play the return fixture - scheduled for January 20 - in Cape Town

And good on them. Eddie G showing his usual arrogant distain for supporters and complete lack of appreceation for the club game by chasing a quick buck. Edinburgh should win anyway.

Completly agree. And what a silly response from Eddie G as well,

“From what I understand, there was no enthusiasm at Edinburgh for going at all. Which is sad, because last year Biarritz immediately saw the opportunity and were very enthusiastic"

“What's going to happen now is that will play against Edinburgh on Jan 19 at Vicarage Road,†he said. “There will be a crowd similar to the crowd at Murrayfield. The game will be played, will not cause any great waves, and will quickly be forgotten"

Yes, it will be forgotten because is a pool game; not a knock-out round, not a final, a pool game, and there is no good reason why it should be remembered as anything other than a pool game. And poor crowds is your own problem, not theirs.

The New York tie against Munster fell through too. I'm not complaining, would have meant that we'd have only had one proper home group game.
