Dragons v Leinster

I'm looking forward to this. I don't expect a Leinster win but I'd like to see the team go out there, throw caution to the wind and go for it. I hope Dominic Ryan and Ian McKinley in particular play well because they could both play a big part for Leinster later in the season.

Interesting to hear Matt Williams say he tried to recruit Dave Kearney and Felix Jones from the Leinster academy to Ulster last season. They would have made a big impact in Belfast.

Fred Cogley shows his ineptness inside the first minute:

"taking it on is the familiar figure of........................Jackman". It was van der Linde!

Yeah I saw that. Snoopy, what would you think of this Leinster side in comparison to a full strength Connacht side? The lads in the studio made some good points about the boys needong regular game time to advance their careers and I'm sure they would add greatly to the squad out west. Surely a more active loan system should be implimented by the IRFU?

You crafty Welsh divils! 10-3 now. Jeez the Dragons 10 is complete cack though.

10-3 to the Dragons now. Alridge took a quick penalty with Leinster aslees, and scored in the corner. Very impressed with Tovey and Gustafson so far.

Edit: yup Allridge's kicking has been appalling!

Yet another try for the Dragons, this one was stunning! Excellent from the Dragons. Really impressed!

17-6.

Further edit: very close to another great try from the Dragons.

This is brilliant rugby, another try for the Dragons. Leinster are getting absolutely destroyed.

Leinster for a second half recovery or is the Irish record gonna look like an O'Gara kicking rate for the weekend...0/4?

You've gotta take your hat off to the Dragons team as a whole. The forwards have been awesome, especially Gustaffson, Lydiate and Charteris, while the backs have been clinical with Aled Brew, Tovey and Gomer Davies really standing out. Alridge has been very good apart from his kicking too, luckily Tovey took over at the end. More of the same in the second half please :)

Yep, Dragons are going well but they are playing against nothing. Disgraceful from Leinster so far. Someboday make a friggin' tackle.

The ref is having a shocker but Leinster are asleep or crap or both.

Dragons handling is really impressive

I havent seen a bit of this game but the referee has nothing to do with conceeding 4 tries.

How much time has gone in this one? its 24-9 at the mo

well he had something to do with 2 of them, should have stopped play and missed a knock on in the other, still though you have to expect that sort of crap from McDowell, Leinster have been all over the shop in defence.

Consolation try for Leinster, but the Dragon's have reduced the intensity in this second half and kicked much more ball than in the first. Was a nice try for Leinster though, good to see them battling to the last whistle.

30-14.

Simon Keogh gets a try in the 78th min and the conversion is missed by Fergus McFadden

Full Time: 30 - 14 to the Dragons

Why didn't Leinster play their full strength team for this match?

Give the young up and comers a run-out. I'm not surprised at the result. Dragons were playing full strength against the Leinster youths effectively. The match meant nothing. I was more interested in individual performances than the result. I thought McKinley was very good. I don't know what happened with the defending out wide. Was a bit of a shambles out there. Leinster were often threatening in attack and recycled ball well.

Dragons were unsurprisingly full value for their win. They exploited Leinster's weaknesses out wide and did exactly what the had to do. It was a shocking first half for Leinster.

Positives:
1. Lots of debuts and players will learn from the experience.
2. McKinley controlled things behind a beaten pack. He struck a good drop goal (excellent decision making), tackled well and deserves a few more run outs this season but needs to improve his passing game. The centres didn't get into it with McKinley at 10.
3. Rhys Ruddock was the best Leinster backrow.
4. Dave Kearney made himself busy in attack and defence. Leinster will have a hard time holding onto him next season. Nicely taken try.
5. A few of the replacements made big impacts. Paul Ryan (I was very impressed) turned over some ball on the deck, Ian Madigan freed the centres to run a bit, Mike Ross added weight to the scrum and carried some ball while Paul O'Donohoe sped things up significantly. Michael Keating was willing to run with the ball.
6. They didn't give up after a poor first half.

Negatives:
1. Ronan McCormack isn't good enough for pro rugby
2. Chris Keane isn't good enough either. He was ponderous at the breakdown, his passes were below average and he was very easy to read.
3. The senior players didn't stand up. O'Kelly, Toner, Keane, McCormack, van der Linde and McFadden didn't stand up to be counted. Stephen Keogh, Simon Keogh and Bernard Jackman weren't good either but at least they showed more effort.
4. No bonus point.
5. 2/5 for McFadden from place kicks.
6. Morris' confidence was shot. He didn't catch anything, his positioning was all over the place, didn't offer an attacking threat and kicked poorly.

A full strength Connacht would beat that Leinster team. Having said that, I think that Leinster team is very talented and a few years from now quite a lot of them will be regular starters at Magners League level. Players like Michael Keating, Niall Morris, Fergus McFadden, Paul Ryan and Devin Toner could go to Connacht and learn a lot through starting most weeks (or at least featuring in the 22). Others like Ian McKinley, Ian Madigan, Rhys Ruddock, Dominic Ryan and Eoin O'Malley are better served learning their trade at Leinster for another year at least since I think they'd getting better coaching if they stayed.

well it was a good game - maybe a bit one sided. just hope Tovey n Aled are gonna be okay as they took knocks - although both said last night that it wasnt serious

Jason Tovey and Aled Brew where brilliant. Charteris, Lydiate and Guffstadson in the pack played well. Tovey's got a heck of a boot on him. His own 22, into touch within the opposing one sides? Why wasn't this man in the Wales squad?
