So apart from P Divvy selecting every rugby player in South Africa, and Zane Kirchner, have we learned anything? Not really.

We learned two things.

1. He likes playing his cards close to his chest.
2. Haters are going to hate.

People got to stop hating on Smit. He's a good player and its a good option on the bench for South Africa.

what does Januarie have to do to get dropped?

He has 47 caps for South Africa, and how many people would say he is worth more than about 15-20? (I saw him play well once against England or France once)

I don't think anybody thinks he is worth his place

He was kept out of the Cats/Lions side by Vermaak (uncapped) and in the Stormers side by Duvenage (uncapped)

My sentiments exactly. Its just too wide to start drawing any conclusions. You might even add Butch James, Ruan Pienaar, Frans Steyn and BJ Botha to that roster of players who might get selected.

Although one exception I am a bit unhappy about is the lack of Riaan Viljoen and Louis Ludik as fullback options. Not my prefered for RWC but surely better than Kirschner.

Yeah. Januarie in my mind is behind;
FdP
Pienaar
Hougaard
Duvenhage
Pretorius
Vermaak
McLeod
and possibly even Kockott

I still think of Januarie as a good player from his time at the Ospreys, although this may be more down to the only Scrum-Half comparisons up to that point being Mike Phillips and Jamie Nutbrown. One too slow, the other too crap.

He has great vision, if not service. You've gotta give him that.

I hate it when they do it alphabetically so I put the names in order of position:

Front row:

Bismarck du Plessis
Jannie du Plessis
Tendai Mtawarira
Chiliboy Ralepelle
Gürthro Steenkamp

Adriaan Strauss
CJ van der Linde
Werner Kruger
Bandise Maku
John Smit
Coenie Oosthuizen

Second row:

Andries Bekker
Bakkies Botha
Flip van der Merwe
Victor Matfield

Alistair Hargreaves

Back row:

Willem Alberts
Heinrich Brussow
Deon Stegmann
Schalk Burger
Dewald Potgieter
Danie Rossouw

Juan Smith
Keegan Daniel
Francois Louw
Duane Vermeulen

Pierre Spies
Ryan Kankowski

Half-backs:

Fourie du Preez
Peter Grant
Elton Jantjies
Ricky Januarie
Morne Steyn
Charl McLeod
Sarel Pretorius
Patrick Lambie

Wingers:

Gio Aplon
Bjorn Basson
Bryan Habana
Francois Hougaard
Lwazi Mvovo
JP Pietersen
Odwa Ndungane
Lionel Mapoe

Centers & Full backs:

Jean de Villiers
Juan de Jongh
Jaque Fourie

Zane Kirchner
Adi Jacobs
Waylon Murray
Wynand Olivier

The lad does know his way to McDonalds.
How Kirchner considered over Ludik?

Kirchner... Come on... Even Jaco Taute and Riaan Viljoen are better options for full-back

No real surprise omissions (though it is a huge group of players). Off the top of my head the only players that I thought might have made it, but didn't, are Gary Botha, Brok Harris, and Meyer Bosman.

Who do people think the non-SA based players will be (if any? I presume they're just left out because of issues of being released by clubs)

Presumably F. Steyn is a shoe in, Ruan Pienaar and Butch James probably involved in a training camp or so too

Brian Mujati should definitely 100,000,000% be in there if it's picked on form

Off the overseas players it will only be Ruan Pienaar, Francois Steyn and maybe Luke Watson. Remember, there is no Springbok on the chest so he would love to get an invite from a black coach ;)
