Cricket Thread

Can't help but feel something needs to be done about how important the toss is in t20 cricket.

Sounds like England Cricket is about to air all its dirty laundry...
 
Really looking forward to watching this Test against India.

1st TEST :
NZ v India
Thu 25th Nov {Green Park Stadium} - 5pm {nzt}
 
Shame Boult & Conway are not available - India will miss Kohli, Rohit Sharma & Bumrah as well... really rate the big fella Jamieson, even on slower pitches like in India he's still going to be a threat with the awkward bounce he's able to get through his height, the bloke also swings the ball both ways.

Good 50 odd by Gill so far... crucial toss for India to win, the Indian commentatorsrs said on this ground the best batting condition are in the 1st innings, then batting becomes much harder latter on.

Williamson is too conservative as a captain, Gill would've been out earlier if we'd taken that review, if it looks close go for it - Jamieson bowled in good areas on or just outside off stump most of the time, some went a bit wider of off stump, but that's much better than bowling on leg giving them easy runs... was pretty poor by our captain not to give Jamieson a couple of overs just before lunch, he was easily our best bowler in the morning session with his late swing & accuracy.
Our spinners bowled a bit too much on leg, Patel was especially guilty of it... hopefully in the 2nd session our spinner can focus on bowling more on off stump & just out side.
 
We got too tentative, lost a lot of wickets against their spinners by staying back in our crease too much, basically poking at the ball - instead of getting in line with the ball using positive movements... have to keep chipping out India's wickets, going to be very difficult for us to get 230 plus batting last.

Looked like it was going to be an obvious draw - but, again bloody poor technique by our middle order against their spinners nearly lost us the match, fortunately at 9 down we only just managed to hang on for the draw... this particular test counted towards World Championship points, both teams get 4pts each.

Williamson is out injured - reckon we got our bowling balance wrong... would've dropped one of our 3 spinners & played Wagner.

2nd TEST :
NZ v India
Fri 3rd Dec {Mumbai} - 5pm {nzt}
 
If you bat poorly in your first innings you're going to be on the back foot for the rest of the match - especially with the shocker we had in the 1st innings... all we can do now is at least make them work for it, keeping them out in the field as long as possible.



NZ require 400 runs... NZ 2nd innings 140/5

Well that was beyond humiliating. Ashes gone.

And a scarcely believable 6 for 7 from 4 overs for 32 year old debutant Scott Boland.

Silverwood surely toast. Root's captaincy is poor and if he has an ounce of common sense he'll step down to concentrate on his batting. No one obvious to replace him which is just one of a shedload of issues that have been brutally exposed.

Root needs to shoved up the order as well, 4 might be his best position but certainly isn't for the team. We're constantly sticking 3 guys with little experience into the Lions den with no support from senior players.

Buttler is a shoe-in for the one day captaincy and gives most info DRS wise. However most people don't want him in the team but most of his batting problems (and the rest of the middle order) stem from not coming in at 200+ with a 60 over ball. (We score way too slowly when we actually get runs leading to them facing the new ball often as well).

Stokes is another option but we already ask a lot of him as a player and he's certainly not fit from his time off.

It's also not a shocker England always play better when Root isn't on the field when fielding. His captaincy is incredibly poor which you can mainly see from his treatment of spinners. All of whom are good enough but when faced with a spinning pitch last match we didn't even play ours...but have done onntwo flatish wickets now. Zero ability to read pitches.


You could go into the Counties and they should TBH need wholesale changes and complete mentality change. Somerset and Essex have been at the top end of the county championship for ages and yet only Cook (retired) and Leech get near the England side. That shows a severe gap in who we are selecting.
 
As a Durham fan I have zero love for the ECB and this latest Ashes farce is entirely on them. Maybe if they put some time and effort into improving county cricket rather than dreaming up new competitions that nobody wants then the Test team wouldn't be the worst it has ever been.

Test cricket is the oldest and best form of cricket and the charlatans who run English cricket are destroying it.
 
1st TEST
NZ v Banglas {Mount Maunganui}
Sat 1st Jan - 11am {nzt}

Taylor is going to retire this year, so it doesn't make much sense he's going to play in our home test series against the Banlas, but not against South Africa in our other home series - Taylor is well past his best anyway, so we should've played the new bloke that's going to play in his spot against the much easier opposition in the Banglas, then he could've worked his way into test cricket by then playing against the much better team in South Africa.

We are only playing two test series against the Banglas & South Africa, which really isn't a test series, need to play at least 3 tests to call it a series... India, Aussie & England play 5 test series, which has given those teams a big advantage over the others throughout the years, NZ have only played a lot of one test or two test series, now & again if we're lucky we play a 3 test series, so it's pretty amazing we have performed as well as we have in the 5 day game.
