He's being labeled pretty much as a mass murderer among some crowds.

I've seen the two plays live, and the slow motion repeat and i can't see anything wrong with it. The tackle on Tiesi was unfortunate (for Tiesi) but he was already about to tackle him when Tiesi kicked the ball. I mean, if that is a penalty, there is not much incentive to try and tackle the kicker, is there? It's not as if Lawes can press "stop" the millisecond the ball leaves Tiesi's foot.

And regarding the knees on Ledesma, that was again, unfortunate, but i see no intention.

Am i missing something? I'd like to see what others (non-argentines/english) think.
Thanks in advance.

I see nothing wrong withthe Tiesi tackle. It is actually what most backrowers are asked to do (an locks too, mind you).

Ledesma's was clumsy, unfortunate and stupid, but not intentional IMO. However, it is a very dangerous play. Diving with the knees forward should be discouraged and I think a 1-2 game ban was the best solution, so I'm satisfied with the statement: he pleaded not guilty but showed remorse, the offence was deemed to be low-end and they gave him the minimum time.

It looked to be like Lawes had plenty of time to pull out of that, as Ledesma was obviously heading towards touch. There is certainly no need to go in with the knees. I don't think it was especially malicious, but it was pretty stupid.

I believe diving in with the knees on a prone player is reckless and dangerous. I believe the hit was intentional.

2 game ban appropriate. Case closed.

If you think the knee on Ledesma was an accident you are pretty naive. Maybe he didn't mean to get him in the head but he definitely wanted to let Mario know he was there. It's not pretty, but Lawes is a physical, confrontational *******. I'd want him on my team.

I agree with this - it's like when defenders slide into try scorers - they know they're not going to stop the try, but they do it anyway

Welcome to the forum, by the way. Are you from Arg?

Tiesi tackle was fine. Knee to Ledesma's head was reckless and dangerous. It certainly wasn't the worst act I've seen on a rugby field - a two week suspension seems about right to me.

Not very consistent citing or very fair. How can you justify QC getting away with something that was intentional and stupid?

I agree it wasn't consistent - Quade Cooper should have been given a similar ban. However just because Cooper got away with it, it doesn't mean Courtney Lawes should get away with it.

The knee was unintentional, however very dangerous, a banning is too far, a public apology and handshake should have putthe matter to bed, it's not tiddlywinks, it's a physical sport.

if that was bad enough to get a suspension I can see 15 eastern Europeans also getting suspended tomorrow

Hehe some rock hard Georgians going to smash into some Scottish tommorow, it doesn't get much better than that does it? :p

I completely agree its not tiddly winks and I love a big hit as much as the next bloke but of course it was intentional, he has to choose to drop to his knees and if you choose to do that then you have to be aware you might collect someone. he could have just as easily decided to dive and tackle in a more conventional way.

two weeks seems fair

Why should have QC got a ban as well? His was clearly accidental contact and the powers that be seem to agree. Move along now.

I guess it's in the eye of the beholder, would you say the same if Richie McCaw accidentally hit another player with his knees ;) in my opinion if the contact had been on the body and not the head, with the subsiquent knock out, it wouldn't have even been mentioned...

 Strangely the only people who believe that have an Australian flag under their name....

Booo, do you know what I see wrong with this.'

Bans are supposed to help players remember that foul play will not be tolerated, thus he is to be punished. However, how likely is it that Lawes would not have started in both the games against Georgia & Romania? How aggrieved will Lawes feel if he misses games he most probably was not going to play a significant role in anyway? Personally, I think he winnae give a flying fadoodle, all he is getting is a wee rest for the game against Scotland.

Booo the IRB, once again favouring players in black jerseys!

yes I would say thE same and by your logic I could go around punchng people as long as not in the head, a knee is a knee just like a punch is a punch, I'm not saying ban him for life but the punisment is justlordhope, how is the irl favouring people in black jerseys?
