Commentator (NOT PUNDIT) of the Tournament

Right, I was wondering whose favourite commentator of the Six Nations was! British, Irish, French or Italian, nominate and explain why here!

This is not a thread to talk about Brian Moore or pundits. If you do, I'll be modding your post with this flag:

That way everyone will know what a prize fool you are!

Anyway, my favourite commentator of the tournament has to be: Andy Cotter of BBC Sport Scotland! Great guy, quite impartial and likable (not like the REALLY boring presenter of BBC Sport Scotland who doesn't have a personality, or, I fear, a soul) and really is into rugby whatever the sides involved!

A pundit. He assists the commentator by punditing and giving his expert views on what has just happened.

I'll let you off this time.

A commentator is someone who says what he sees and adds value to the performance. Think Bill McClaren or Murray Walker.

A pundit is someone who lends their experience to describe how the event happened and what when into the said event both physically, mentally and tactically. Think Brian Moore, James Hunt, Martin Brundle or Mark Blundell.

Mite, you watch WWE all the time, I thought you would have known that!

Brian Moore is great entertainment, however he can be annoying when he moans to much especially if England are losing!
The Scottish guy is great but I feel soryr for him, having to commentate on the Scotland team Ive heard him at times and it sounds as though his heart s breaking I'll never forget some of his comments when Wales smashed them in Scotland for the 2005 Grand slam.

In that case, my favorite commentator durning the 6 nations has been Miles Harrisson on the GP matches, he's the only "commentator" (going by the strange, Ollie Barkley-copulating way the Vine mind works)that appears to understand the game.

The only "strange" thing here is how you don't understand the different between the guy who repeats what he sees on the field and the guy who tells you why whats going on on the field is happening?

The problem is that in the old days you used to just have a commentator or a commentator and a assisting pundit in the box. These days, you have a myriad of commentators, pundits in the commentry box, analysts and yet more pundits elsewhere. The only sport where an "analyst" has truly worked is in Cricket with Channel 4s coverage.

Up until yesterday I would have said Nick Mullins but given how far his cock was up Cipriani's ass during the game yesterday that opinion has changed significantly.

Why BBC don't use Jim Neilly for the rugby is beyond me.

Fabien Galthié is my favorite in France. He has the enthusiasm of a dying cancerous man but his analysis are sometimes interesting.

He's a pundit though, I liked the enthusiasm of the guy who did the world cup commentary and he also does the football on TF1, even if he did feel the need to explain basic rules every time there was a break in play, Thierry something I think...

Agreed, he's an annoying prick so would fit in with the majority of the BBCs rugby team perfectly.

It has been done!

Maybe we should have a list where people sign to agree if they want their posts modded with pretty pictures...?

Thierry Gilardi ;)

(nice picture  )

They're all ****, they should fly in Hugh Bladen for some real top quality commentating.

Surely Brian Moore is a co-commentator (and therefore comes within the confines of this thread) while the pundits are the people in the studio.

No. Moore is a pundit, not a commentator. There is a clear line between someone who says what he says and describes and talks about tactical plays, rules and playing exepriences.
