I don't know why you guys are trying to belittle Chabal, or any player. He went out there, gave his all, and plays hard.
He's a character which is why people talk about him, and why he is talismanic (interesting that half that word is 'manic', if it's a real word at all!). He makes the sport more interesting and more popular with the masses, which is great for us die-hards.
He played hard, and certainly at one point had the whole world out of their chairs.
Every team needs a Chabal to rally behind. And world rugby needs more Chabals.

I'm pretty sure it's all tongue-in-cheek....it's more to do with the craic & banter everyone's having with the Chabalists. You'd have to have a pretty hard heart to really enjoy seeing the French so distraught. They have put on a GREAT world cup. I am gutted for them.

I've just started following rugby, but this Chabal guy seems amazing! Mythical. In the semifinal, where he was a meter or two from a try against England, tackled by five players or so, dragging forward, seeing it makes my hairs stand on end!

I think that the whole normand warrior look thing was brought upon him for many reasons. He's a good player, but mediocre, he really doesn't do anything out of the ordinary for his size and I think that the coach had his reasons for leaving him on the bench. He hits hard though, that's not wonder.
