Bryce Lawrence

Yeah, I am fine with the Facebook thing calling for an end to an incompetent ref as I think there does need to be minimum standards for test refs.

The phone calls and Noakes' letter is a bit embarrassing to me though. I thought the guys in the higher positions like the players and coach have kept their heads high in what has to be very frustrating circumstances but Noakes is doing these men a bit of a disservice.

Lets just accept that we copped some very bad calls from an extremely bad ref, guys and hope that it gets acted upon by the IRB; either through looking at ways to assure better performances or a bit of clearing up of the laws (to the benefit of all) and move on.

But those who suggest the ref didn't determine the outcome can keep their opinions to themsleves in my book.

Agreed!

Tim Noakes might be a knowledgeble when it comes to sports, but to make accusations like that without proper substance is just stupid.

the next thing we'll probably hear is that Bryce, his daddy, Nigel Owens and The Welsh director of rugby are bukakke partners and this was all an evil plot to get Wales and NZ in a World Cup Final before they jizzed in each other's eyes...

Lol, was that a bit too graphic?

You probably could have stopped at "they are partners" and the message would still convey your point ;)

It would be great to see the whole letter as the selected snippets only serve as an accusation, but there is no evidence to back up what he's saying.

How is Bryce Lawrence benefiting from this result?

He gets a lot of pats on the back when he goes back to Aussieland :p

Would love for the King Commissioner to get involved, check his bank details internationally (money laundering possibilites) and future purchases. I am sure Bryce has made enough moola from this transaction to RETIRE comfortably. At least we know he won't dissapear like Hansie Cronje & Bob Woolmer!

I say put him on a lie detector, if he passes everyone can shut up if he doesn't get rid of the fu****!

Moola... does that still exist now that we arrived in the smartphone era? Are people still using Mxit? ;)

It is understandable that South Africans are ****** off (they lost) but I must point out that the majority aren't looking at the situation with a calm, neutral head. Firstly Lawrence may have been lenient on the breakdown but he was consistently and equally lenient. He allowed the Springboks to do the same thing that he allowed the Wallabies (read David Pocock) to do, its just that the South Africans where not good enough to exploit his leniency and Pocock was. The Wallabies adapted to his style and the Bokke didn't. That is not really Lawrence's fault. Secondly he may have missed some Wallabies infringements but he missed some Springbok ones too. I remember seeing Pocock attack Heinrich Brussow quite legally early on in the game when he was off his feet. Brussow held onto the ball for far too long and too top if off Schalk Burger came in from the side and cleared him out. No penalty was given. Thirdly Andre Watson may have been a "respected" referee but he is also a South African so his opinion is not exactly professional.
I'm not saying that Lawrence had a great game but he doe not deserve the amount of flak he is getting and the people feeding to him might do well to remember that there are two sides to every story.

Again, it is easier to attack and disrupt the ball when the other team is in possesion, so whilst the Boks should have equally done to the Aussies what they did to them on their ball, the fact of the matter is that SA had more ball than the Aussies, and it is harder to protect your ball when it is a free for all than to have a go at it.

Lawrence has single handidly ruined far too many games, its not as though he just makes mistakes, we have seen in the past the he knows full well that there are laws against handling in the ruck, but he chose to completely ignore this rule. He deserves every bit of non-abusive criticism that has been dished out.

Oh and yours are? you are Australian and of course you'll say stuff like that... Because he was a referee, and because he trains referees, and also because he's on the Referees board, i think his professional opinion matters... I mean he blew a World Cup final dammit!

Bryce is getting what he deserves, and the fact that it's not just from South Africans, shows that something has to be done... You guys were quick to fire shots at him after your loss to Ireland, why all of a sudden so mild about him??

I think if Bryce is getting what he deserves then we may lose the next generation of Referees - who would want to referee in a situation like this?

Bryce's performance was poor - not many people disagree with this. But the amount of hate directed at him for doing a such a poor job? Who would want to referee? He deserves to be disciplined for his performance by the IRB.

I offer my condolences and I can say that I have experienced this - I was at Cardiff when Wayne Barnes refereed the AB's vs France, and I was more furious than you. Grown men around me cried, others in a cold night threw off their AB's jerseys walking away in singlets.
I wouldn't have added my name to any hate social pages knowing that under the same type of pressures that I may not have made similar mistakes.

Again if pressures like this get to our top* Referees, then who would want to do it? Alot of the referees at club levels start off as volunteers, knowing that this could be a potential response - whats the point?

*please take this with a grain of salt.

Lo Fair enough, but this wasn't the only match he was so poor... it has been stated numerous times on this forum, on numerous threads... the only thing he is consistent in, is in being totally KAK!

I hope Lawrence watched the Semi Final to get some tips on how to ref the breakdown in a rugby game!
