Boycotting American Companies

You guys realise that by Boycotting some American company you are making absolutely no difference whatsoever, right? I mean for real, though. If 10 people boycott (and that's being generous) out of UKs 69.9million, you have removed 0.0000143% of their possible revenue. You are not even making a noticeable dent in any metrics whatsoever.

i think the idea is its not just people on the rugby forum....Which Tyler is just raising ideas that are growing out there in the real world, the obvious one is i often hear people talk about trying to find where to buy something other than amazon and only resorting to it as a last resort...and has been big, at least around me, since covid to go to local coffee chops or takeaways rather than mcdonalds/BK/Pizza hut etc

There are only two chain restaurants in my whole suburb in Melbourne are Aussie owned ones

The point of a boycott isn't to bring a company to its knees; it's to make your point - and it needs A LOT of people boycotting for a company to even notice.
But if a few million European all cancel Netflix on the same weekend, then Netflix will notice, they may even care, keep it going, and they may exert some pressure on their pet politicians.

The point is to disentangle myself from US companies where I realistically can, and to show some solidarity with Greenlanders (and Canadians, as they're back on the menu)

What the corporate overlords REALLY want is an attitude of "boycotts don't matter / don't work / can't be 100% perfect, so I won't bother"

No-one is capable of 100% disentangling themselves from America.
No-one is obliged to even try.
But I'm sure they're grateful for the nay-saying.

Does anyone else get a sense of déjà vu?

I think we should distinguish between the USA and Trump. America is awesome and will continue to be so after Trump is gone (hopefully)

I can understand the sentiment but we’ve just got to play nice and get through the next 3 years. I know that sounds lame but most Americans aren’t on board with Trump.

And yet, they voted for him, including a second time when they couldn't claim ignorance as to who and what he is.
The majority of Americans aren't on board with him about Greenland; but they are about Venezuela, and ICE, and American Exceptionalism **** Yeah!, and all the rest of the MAGA bullshit - as espoused by a couple of posters/bots on here.
He's proven that the American Electorate can't be trusted not to do the same again.
He's proven that the American system of checks and balances are not fit for purpose.
He's proven that any deals made with the American state can't be trusted to last for longer than a weekend.
He's proven that 80 years of consistent policy can be overturned on a whim.

I'm sorry dude, but the damage this guy is causing American reputation and soft power will take generations to recover from.
My boycott is continuing, but the current TFFTACO means that there will be fewer with me. Who knows what new derangements will happen for this weekend.
I'm putting my money where my mouth is - opposing this phase of USA. If/when they do return to sanity and a world where reality is acknowledged, and prove to be stable there, then I will happily buy their stuff again.
It's not like I take pleasure in sacrificing my convenience, and often paying more.

Are they though? I’m not so sure. Perhaps they are but either way he’ll be gone in a few years and hopefully sanity will prevail then. Or, they’ll be a civil war and we can side with the sane side.

I think its pretty screwed from everything I've seen and heard. You have American's legitimately saying please don't visit our country.

The real question is who become MAGA heir apparent and if the base will shift to that person. I think they will.

What ever comes next. I don't like it but unfortunately this is true.

The relationship with the USA matters profoundly – "not just to our security, but to the prosperity and the stability that people here at home depend on.”

I think we just need to listen to Mark Carney a tad more as to where the world is now. Not remain in a world that's been and gone.

Yeah, it’s very split. Much like over here and most places in the west. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that things have got worse in the last 10 years since Trump has been on the global stage.

I don’t think there is an heir to Trump. Or not a natural one at least. Vance hasn’t got the charisma though he’s probably a better politician so can position himself well but I don’t see him being the cult like leader that Trump is. Who knows though.

If the Dems win the next election I’d like to see them do the opposite of Biden. Not having a go at Jo, and he did the right thing at the time when he got elected by trying to heal the divide amongst Americans, but if I was the Dem who had just won in my first speech o would be saying Trump and co must be held accountable for all their ****. If they don’t do that then you run the risk of it all happening again. Accountability is the word. They must be held to account.

MAGA has been 20 years in the making - there was a groundswell that made pandering to the tea party important.
It's not going away just because the current cult leader dies / leaves office (these to things will most likely be simultaneous). I certainly don't see the Supreme Court returning to normal just because Trump goes awy.
Murca F*** Yeah! goes back even further

They may not represent the majority of Americans (and note, my issue is the country, not the individuals) but they represent a strong enough faction to win elections.

I suppose at least you’re getting in with this stuff before we elect Nigel Fararge as PM. 😉
