In the league competition, bonus point is given in the case of 4 tries, or defeat less than 7 point difference. However, I think these are unnecessary. If the game points are same, the rank is decided by point difference. Therefore, there is always motivations for players even if the point difference is very large.

It's to make rugby more attactive so that teams will keep playing and not just stick it up there jumper. Please stop trying to change everything.

Bonus points are capped, so that the maximum league points one team can claim after a match is 5. There's enough matches in a league season to assume that there will, for the most part, be a variety in the accumulated league points across all teams.

Match points are not capped. A team could feasibly rack up near 100 points in a single fixture, as is the nature of sport, and have that greatly effect their final league position. Then the beneficiary would only merit their league position - even ***le - on one poor performance of some random side. There are other smaller issues, such as match forfeits or league penalties, where I assume match points would need to be included in the penalty, which would be difficult to calculate.

Both bonus points and match points add incentives in their own right, but by favouring league points, the final league reflects fairly on the consistent performances of teams.

Does that make sense?

I think if a team is thirty points down, the players are not going to continue to play at 100% on the off chance that that could improve their points difference at the end of the season. On the other hand, if a team is down by 14 points then they will be motivated because they can still earn one competition point.

Bonus points are a great rule :), so I think they will stay for a long time in rugby.
