Springboks flanker Heinrich Brussow has extended his Super Rugby contract with the Free State Cheetahs until 2013.

Brussow turned down several lucrative offers and agreed to stay in Bloemfontein with the Cheetahs.

"Heinrich wants to play for the Cheetahs," his agent Stephan Weyers told Volksblad.

"He is loyal towards his team-mates, coaches and supporters and is positive about the future of Cheetah-rugby," said Weyers.

"Heinrich could earn more money at other places, but he is happy in Bloemfontein where he owns property, has shares in businesses and is close to his parents, girlfriend and friends."

Weyers went on to say that Cheetahs coach Naka Drotske had a big influence on Brussow's decision to stay.

Well, that ends a bunch of speculation!!!!

Fantastic news, not just for the Cheetahs, but for SA as a whole.

This stops a backlog of talent from occuring, and by the end of next season I think we will start seeing a relatively even distribution of talent around the country, as by then the Bulls will no longer have a ton of quality locks, the Stormers all the centres, the Sharks looseforwards (however I feel this will be more of a case of the other unions having increased the amount of talent at the back of the scrum, rather than the Sharks distributing) and front-rowers (especially if Coenie Oosthuizen shows the same competence at tighthead as he does at loose-head at pro level [even though he played mainly at 3 in school anyways])

The quality of wings is pretty much shared around the country, except for the Cheetahs really (unless Nokwe manages more than 40 minutes next season).
Half-backs? Meh, the Bulls signing of Vermaak will mean we will see Hougaard continueing at wing (although I am told he is not really happy about that, him wanting to be du Preez's succesor and all), whilst the Stormers will carry on with Duvenange, the Griquas/ Cheetahs losing Pretorius and the Lions will only have Bondesio, unless they start to fast track Rudi Page, and of course the Sharks will have magic-man, game-braker (doesn't seem right even though it is, game-breaker?) Charl McLeod. His box of tricks will leave us wondering just WTF he is going to do next.

Oh, and the Stormers have built themselves some nice options at 10, but every team (maybe not the Bulls) will have a decent/ quality 10, with sufficient back-up.

Two of these uncapped up-and-coming stars must have Scottish grandparents, please, that's all I ask...

Well, when looking at the Springboks, we see an all-Sharks front-row, an all-Bulls lock-combination, 2 out of 3 Cheetahs in the backrow and 4 Stormers in the backline.

The most entertaining will be to see what happens with the half-backs. Will it be Vermaak, Hougaard or Pienaar at scrumhalf? Who will be the fly-half? Lambie, Grant, Ebersohn, Jantjies or still Morne Steyn?

Looks like Johan Goosen is allready ahead of Sias Ebersohn if you can believe that.

Good on them. If they can keep their star players they will be a real threat in the next few seasons.

What happened to that big guy they used to have at fullback?

Hennie Daniller? He is still around, but I always thought he was a liability rather than a player to build on.

Yea him. Was just wondering if he is still in the squad because I haven't seen him playing for a while (and couldn't find him on their wiki page). But yea there are a lot of good outside backs in SA so i suppose you'd be looking for players with more potential. He's definitely a good back up to have though.

When we look at the future we have guys like Juan de Jongh, Patrick Lambie, Johan Goosen, Sias Ebersohn, Mark Richards and Jaco Taute in our backline and Marcell Coetzee, Rynhardt Elstadt, Anton Bresler, Wiehahn Herbst, Coenie Oosthuizen, Michael Van Vuuren, Siya Kolisi and Eben Etzebeth

It's important to give those guys gametime. That's why I think it's a blessing that Brussow is staying with the Cheetahs.
