With the TRFies in motion and the category 'Northern Hemisphere Player of the Year' it got me thinking on who might be the best over-seas signing for a Magner's League side. I did have a few in mind, but interested on what everyone else might have an opinion on.

Leinster - Rocky Elsom, Isa Nacewa

Munster - Jim Williams, Rua Tipoki, Doug Howlett, Trevor Halstead

Ulster - Ruan Pienaar, BJ Botha

Cardiff Blues - Xavier Rush, Paul ***o

Ospreys - Jerry Collins, Marty Hola

Of course there are many more, but from the men I can remember my vote would go for Isa Nacewa.

How about nominating in the TRF Awards first ;)

:(

Sssssshhhhh ... urm ... I meant for anyone else

Back on topic, Rush, Blair and ***o have been outstanding for the Blues, not so much this season mind but their impact at the Blues has been significant.

Rob Howley - Cardiff to Wasps - 2002, crucial role in Wasps HCUP victory in 2004

Dan Lyle - Old Mission Beach Athletic Club to Bath - 1996, quality player for Bath

Rocky Elsom - Waratahs to Leinster - 2008, as BOD said 'Let's put it this way, we wouldn't of won the Heineken Cup without Rocky Elsom', also whilst he was at Leinster Heaslip became world class, was this just a coincidence?

Jim Williams - Brumbies to Munster - 2001, good player, captained for a couple of seasons and although never won the HCUP he did coach them to it

Xavier Rush - Blues to Cardiff Blues - 2005, arrived in the shadow of Lomu's arrival, but proved himself the Blues talisman over the past few years

Brock James - Western Force to Clermont - 2006, just a Force reserve behind Hilgendorf, but Vern Cotter signed a gem to replace Stephen Jones, scored a T14 record 41 kicks in a row, and yes he did bottle the quarter final against Leinster last year, but given his reputation when he arrived in France to what he's done for them now

Pat Howard - Brumbies to Leicester - 1998, caused Greenwood to leave them

Felipe Contepomi - Bristol to Leinster - 2003, allow Leinster fans to tell you why

Isa Nacewa - Blues to Leinster - 2008, allow Leinster fans to tell you why

Chris Masoe - Hurricanes to Castres - 2008, has led Castres to overacheive as a successful side in the Top14

Filo Tiatia - Toyota Verblitz to Ospreys - 2006, club legend,

Napolioni Vonowale Nalaga - Nadroga to Clermont - 2007, phenomenal amount of tries in his first couple of season

Thierry Dusautoir - Biarritz to Toulouse – 2006, failing to break Biarritz's Harinordoquy-Betsen-Lievremont partnership, he moved to Toulouse who had Nyanga in his position (who at the time was one of the best in the world) and displaced him in national and club team colours

Tony Marsh - Waratahs to Clermont - 1998, a good 9 seasons service with them

Omar Hasan - Agen to Toulouse – 2004, scrum ogre

Fereti Tuilagi - St. Helens RL to Leicester - 2000, maybe not Fereti himself, but it was his signing that led to Leicester becoming the home of the Tuilagi's, nobody would deny that this signing was a good investment

And the flops .....

Andy Farrell - Wigan RL to Saracens - 2005, there were a number of Rugby League flops I could list here but I have limited myself to this injury prone rubbishy

Rico Gear - Crusaders to Worcester - 2007, a quality player who was successful in Super Rugby, yet he scored 1 try in his 2 years at Worcester, part of one of the bluntest attacking teams ever possibly

de Wet Barry - Stormers to Harlequins - 2007, didn't settle

Ashwin Willemse - Lions to Biarritz - 2007, was relegated to the reserves in his second season

Owen Finegan - Brumbies to Newcastle - 2005, supposed to launch Newcastle into a strong European team, but was ditched after one poor season

Christian Cullen - Hurricanes to Munster - 2003, pale shadow of his great self

Joeli Veitayaki - Blues to Ulster - Big as a house and just as mobile, they say that Craigavon's eateries mounted a protest after the giant Fijian prop was let go by UIster

Rob Dewey- Edinburgh to Ulster - 2007, went from Scotland player, to bit part Ulster reserves player

Eddie Hekenui - I'll let Leinster fans say why again ...

Sam Norton-Knight - Waratahs to Cardiff Blues, named Sam Norton-Sh*te in some corners of the Cardiff City Stadium few would disagree, in the end it go so embarrassing that I just felt sorry for him

To nit pick but Thierry Dusautoir move was from French club to a French club ... and Dusautoir is French so really does not qualify for best over-seas singing

Rocky Rocky Rocky!

no, Rocky is not sub standard, you just have too high expectations of him, he's been injured a lot since he came back and has taken time to come back but he is still quality

without him you Aussies would have to pick Richard Brown or Scott Higginbotham at 6, is that really what you want?
Have you seen Scott Higginbotham this season? Richard Brown are you kidding? he'd never make 6 for the Wallabies again, he'd be lucky to make the wallabies again Matt Hodgson is way ahead of him, but Higginbotham will be this years number 6.

Was Langford around in the Celtic League days or had he left before the tournament began?

Snoop I not 100% sure of this but I think he played the first season of the competition but have something in back of head too thinking he may have left in the May before the competition began.

Edit: Just had it clarified Snoop he never played and left the summer before Celtic League commenced.

Not only that snoop but when he came in the professionalism in Austrailia was more ahead of here at times and the standards and methods he brought made all players follow his lead off the field. I'd class his input up their with the best of them

It did say overseas signings for Magners League didn't it :D ... if you're including foreign signings for English and French clubs, you'd have to include Nick Evans wouldn't you :D
