In an important event for International rugby, which will be largely overshadowed by Wilko's retirement, Bernard Lapasset has been reelected as IRB Chairman in an incredibly close vote(14-12) over Bill Beaumont that shows big divisions in the rugby community.

Lapassets platform was based much more on growing the game globally(both in 15's and 7's), while Beaumont had focused on more of a top down vision of strengthening the Tier One sides and solving the RWC finance issues that had been raised by NZ and Australia during this years event.

The eight founding unions each had two votes, with the remaining ten Tier One and Two teams or their regional boards(as is the case for most Tier Three sides) being allocated one each.

Beaumont was apparently supported by, Australia, New Zealand, England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.(Two votes from each.)

Lapasset received his suport from South Africa, France(Two votes each) and every single one vote country and regional board, Argentina, Italy, Canada, Japan, along with the regional boards that represent all the remaining unions in a geographical region.

Beaumont has also lost the Vice-Chairman election as Oregan Hoskins has won 14-13, with the chairman casting the deciding vote after two rounds of tied voting. So it looks like Beaumont managed to pick up another vote of support(Possibly Canada or the European regional body), but that the bulk against him stayed against him.

The remaining elections have taken place and the following have won spots on the executive comittee. Bill Beaumont (England) at least he won something!, Tatsuzo Yabe (Japan), Giancarlo Dondi (Italy), Peter McGrath (Australia), Peter Boyle (Ireland), Graham Mourie (New Zealand) and Bob Latham (USA).

Good news that Lapasset won and that Beaumont lost. Lapasset is the type of guy to have on board with the countdown to Japan hosintg in 2019 and hopefully then Argentina in 2023 while Beaumont would, as pointed out, is a conservative.

As a Tier Two fan this is also my feeling Melhor, I think Lapasset has been fairly effective in his role as well and a second term is certianly deserved, it would have been interesting if he'd won with only the support of six or seven countries effectively in the entire IRB. Hopefully this isn't a sign of cnflict to come between the Tier one and Two(with Three) sides.

Well, I understand what the NZRU was saying as well... I hope Lapasset can keep the T1 nations happy while continuing with the growth. I don't see RWC 2023 going to Argentina given this trouble in the election... and that South African vote looks suspicious. 2023 going to SA for sure. Hopefully 2027 will go to a T2 (Argentina, Italy or Canada/USA)
