Aviva Teams with the most money?

I was just wondering which Aviva teams had the most money. Also do you think that the British teams will be able to compete with the French teams in the coming years or will we see more of the best of British heading over to France for the bigger money?

Leicester followed by Northampton are the richest (not including sugar daddies here)

And English clubs will not be able to compete with the French unless the salary caps are brought in line, which seems unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Hmmm, explain the difference between Aviva and British please, greatly affects the answer that can be given.

Wanted to know the Aviva (English teams) with the most money and how all the Britsh teams not just the English would compete with the cashed up French teams..

Believe this is talking about the Aviva Premiership, the premiership will never compete with the French league until the Salary Cap is removed, which won't be any time soon... Several of the Premiership teams have wealthy owners, but that doesn't mean they are Rich Teams... for instance Bath is now owned by a wealthy owner, who has invested heavily into the academy and training facilities, which will be good for the future of the club, but it is not going to stop big names going to France for the money, or even Japan for the money...

Am I right in thinking that there's no salary cap on the Pro12 teams?

The top Celtic teams spend just as much as the top French teams.

So is the salary cap there to keep the league close or is it there to stop team going broke trying to pay for the players?
If the salary cap was removed then which clubs in the current league would be able to survive?

The cap is there because of when Sir John Hall literally bought the league for Newcastles ***le in 98.

About half of them could (Tigers, Saints, Sarries, Bath, Wuss, Gloucester, Irish & Quins) pull in the cash. The rest would likely perish.

Bit of both, these days

Remove the salary cap and teams like Saints and Tigers could afford to spend a lot more, especially as they could raise their advertising as they're realitively successful/well supported/known as far as Rugby goes in the UK
Teams like Sale/Bath/Saracens could get their sugar daddies to dip in their pockets a bit more, and also buy more

Teams like Newcastle, Exeter etc. would likely fold if they tried to keep up with the big spenders

In the Pro 12 many Irish players are centrally contracted and Irish teams have a foreign player limit. Yes we don't have a salary cap but we still couldn't compete with the French for wages. The international selection policy helps and in England will keep your top English talents who have international ambition.

Lancaster's already said he'll axe that, which I don't think is a wise move.

I don't think it'll make a bit of difference - they'll look at England before elsewhere because of the agreement between Prem clubs and the RFU on releasing players
It only really effects players who have since moved away, and to be fair if it means Palmer is available, I don't mind

I think it was more of a "we'll consider all options" rather than "everyone move to France, it'll be fine"

So I guess the best thing would to be raise the cap but not get rid of it and also place a restriction on how many non-English eligible players are allowed to play for each club.
At the same time attempting to make the lesser clubs more profitable. LOL easier said than done I know.

We shall see how it unrolls I guess. Does make a slight mockery on the policy though I guess.

Roughly that, save restrictions on numbers of NEQPs would be unenforceable legally, but you can give cash incentives to have more Englishmen, which is what they're doing.

Ultimately, the best measure is to improve the quality of English players... which happily they're doing. A better standard improves a lot of things.

Was that really a bad thing thou? Would be good to see the Northern teams win a few more ***les.. Sale was the last to do so.

I would love to see the North win more.

I would hate to see rugby being dominated by who had the deepest purses. Leave that **** to the wendyballers.

It did nothing to develop the game though. No local kids got into the game as a result etc.

Money is already dominating the game. The all-but-confirmed Ashton->Saracens move is a good example where the agents are carrying on where they left off in soccer.
