Aviva Premiership 15/16 - Round 2

Definitely a 6 who could fill in at 8.

Don't know whether I agree with that, TBH.

I think it's still up in the air slightly as to whether he'll be an OS or BS - he has the floor and linking skills to be a very good 7, if that's the direction he's pushed, and I think Quins are actively looking to do that.
Definitely an 8 after he is a flanker, though.

No way he has the breakdown skills of an openside - could probably develop them, but considering how much time they've put into beefing him up then I think he'd be far more use at 6, going forwards.

Another pretty poor round of premiership games. Considering the reasonable weather for most matches not a lot of running.

Also attendances were pretty low for most games.

2 players that have really stood out for me in the past 2 weeks are Jake Cooper-Wooley and Chris Harris they have been really good . Copper-Wooley has some serious power now . The wasps scrum was massive on the weekend

Definitely a 6 who could fill in at 8.

Came through our academy but then followed his brother to Wasps, who barely played him so he went Jersey and then quickly on to Tigers as injury cover and then stayed on.

To be fair, Tommy was really poor in the games he did play for us! But I always thought he had plenty of talent so it's good to see him get some gametime with Tigers and doing well there.

Big old Hughes No 8 Wasps held back by Matawala No 9 Bath. I'd suggest that if Hughes had tried he would have got to that ball.. I think there may have been an element of play acting there.

It was a penalty, and yellow card and penalty try were fair sanction before I get accused of Bath bias.

Just thought it was amusing that such a strong carrier was easily stopped by a little old scrum half...

Matawalu probably whispered something to him about how Hughes turned his back on his country, and how proud he felt running out for Fiji at the world cup, which caused Hughes to lose concentration and trip over his own feet.

Must of been the case as there was a wendyball style wave of the arms as he was tugged.

Off balanced and twisted on the shoulder. Perhaps if he'd powered through he could have got there, but it would have been very close. I can understand deciding to go with bringing it to the refs attention ;). He didn't dive on the floor etc which is something. Got to wonder if he'd powered through and not made it, if the ref would still have bothered checking?

To be fair Matawalu is still likely to be 14 stone . It's hardly like he's a 4 stone 5 year old . From what I saw he pulled his shoulder from right to left and took him off balance more than anything and I don't think he would have made it to the ball first the covering player was there very quickly. At the end of the day it's not Hughes fault and I'm sure if he thought he was able to get there he would have. Contrary to popular opinion on here I can't wait for Hughes to be available for England he's clearly the best number 8 in the country at the moment and is strong at the breakdown which England need so badly

I'm not disputing the decision or calling Hughes a cheat, just make me chuckle that a player who loves to crash through people was put off so easily that's all.

Don't blame him for his actions.

Like I said, I think he could have powered through, but having done a fair bit of Judo/Jiu Jitsu, it's surprisingly easy to have a significant effect on someones balance with very little force, especially if that person isn't perfectly balanced to start with. Perhaps Hughes' reaction was 100% genuine, though I'm more of the opinion that Niko did enough for Hughes to figure he had no chance now, and he was better off appealing.
