Apple boss Steve Jobs has announced that he is to take "medical leave" from the company.

In an e-mail to employees he said he was taking the break to focus on his health.

He said he would continue as chief executive of Apple and be involved in any major decisions. Day-to-day running of the company will pass to Tim Cook.

In late 2008 to mid-2009 Mr Jobs was absent from Apple for six months to have a liver transplant.

It was part of the series of treatments he has undergone for pancreatic cancer. He was first diagnosed as suffering from the cancer in 2004 and underwent surgery later that year to remove a tumour from his pancreas.

In his e-mail Mr Jobs said he would be back at work as soon as he can.

Can Pancreatic cancer be cured? because from what I have heard its always terminal :/

He's probably ill because his uber-phone doesn't allow you to have your own message tone or Bluetooth. Or maybe because people are using their phone left handed. ***.

Wow Dan harsh man!

Jobs came back before and looked rough, the treatment had taken its toll. Apparently he's gone away for more treatment. Hopefully he will be back.

I wish him all the best in his recovery obviously but I think the man is a moron.

+3

Nothing against the guy personally, but the thing he stands for is something I cannot approve of. This whole Apple gag has been running long enough now. People buying it just because it's Apple, not thinking about what it consists of etc.

No, Apple sucks. Just the fact you cannot even watch a flash-based website on your iPhone or iPad and that you need iTunes just to transfer files to your device is ridiculous. Again, all the best to Jobs as a person but as a CEO of wannabe-monopolist Apple, no good wishes from me to him

Call it shrewd business, the man has capitalized on Apple and developed some great hardware!

Major reason why people don't like Apple is because of not being able to watch Flash on an iPhone! Meh small price to pay.

iTunes is a wonderful invention I have no issues with it, think it's smart business, want an iPod etc then you must sync with iTunes or nothing else.

Be interesting to know how many people have an iPhone or an Apple product and still slag them off.

Apparently an apple a day doesn't keep the doctor away.

Ba-dum-tish.

I have 2 apple products. An iPod and an iPhone 4.

I despise iTunes, it is a nosey, interfering, controlling piece of software that attempts to take over your computer and then the galaxy. It's very clunky, and not easy to use. It's little wonder people jailbreak phones - it's so they don't have to use that AWFUL piece of software. James Cameron nearly had in right in Terminator 2. He named his piece of self-aware software "SkyNet" when he actually meant "iTunes."

As for no flash, it's NOT a small price to pay, not for me anyway. Firstly, who do apple think they are by restricting what software I can use on my very expensive phone? Not supporting flash is arrogant and ignorant, especially as it's so common. And Jobs is arrogance personified, as he demonstrated with his ridiculous "don't use the phone left handed" in response to the signal issues his poorly researched device was plagued with. Only consumer pressure got the free cases, believe you and me.

Screw apple, screw Jobs, and screw the horse they both rode in on. But I do hope he makes a full recovery.

I hate the Mac and the comps they put out but the Iphone id great IMO while I've had a few problems with Itunes I can work around it.

For a phone that has so many restrictions, it is unbelievably expensive.

I use the Iphone for 2 things phone and music don't really give a crap, it's much better then my last phone.

I have several devices for my music:

At home I use this set:

With some speakers worth the value of 3 iphones (yep, about a fasand quids worf!)

On the road I have:

Connected to a pair of Vibe SR-71, a pair of Ground Zero ***anium speakers and of course one of these bad boys:

And if I desperately need to listen to music on foot (which is actually never):

iPod? iPhone? Pah.

As for Phone, I use an N900. Which, to prove a point, I used to post this message (via the inbuilt firefox web browser) and show how there are better products out there then that apple shite.

*yes, it has an ipod dock. Which only gets used when friends are over and their iphone batteries are dead (which seems to be permanently the case).

So you would rather all of these when i can use a cable to plug into my car a dock smaller then that one and well listening to music on the go i just use my Iphone. I could point out other stuff but I'm going to bed.

Yep. But then again I appreciate high quality playback.

The Hifi has a larger hard disk then any iPhail therefore stores more music. It's also far more powerful then the iPoo'd so sound quality improves. Also has wi-fi, DAB & internet radio so there's an infinate selection readily available, all in glorious HD Audio.
The car system = Almost equal quality to the Hi-fi. Compatible with any external music source instead of only an iPhuckup (although slightly off topic on this one - The point was more about music on the move).
The mobile system (walkman) = More intuitive menus, longer battery life, larger disk (vs cost), no iTwat software, looks better, higher quality sound system - Bog standard speakers much better too.
n900 = Phone with more battery life. Mobile PC in the pocket. Open source software freely available. Better camera. Flash compatible.

The only advantage of using an iPhail I can see is for making a fashion statement. It's a crap phone, crap for texting and a crap internet browser. Angry Birds works well though.

Walkmans ha I remember them and the fastforwarding and rewinding for songs recorded on to tape off radio ha
must say though never gave me a problem
