Another Gavin Henson thread!

This story could well happen. Saracens need someone and Gav needs a club ...

I don't want this to happen,
I don't mind Henson, but if he went to Saracens i'll automatically hate him :p

But in all seriousness, isn't he in SCD until xmas or whatever, so wouldn't be able to join sarries for a month or two, at which point it'll only be a month or so until Houggaard is back, surely?
Better to find someone who can fill in straight away
After reading the article it's all media speculation anyway, noone from Sarries has said they're going to get him, it's just "understood" that it "might" happen :p

Gatland dropping all English-based players from Wales might be him trying to send a message to Gav. Not that he listens to anyone. Not even Char or the judges on Stricty.

Good move, got to negotiate with the Ospreys and the BBC.

I don't know what Sarries are thinking lining up a 28 year old [strike]dancer[/strike] centre who hasn't played in 18 months as their saviour at flyhalf. Surely they'd be better off giving Alex Goode a run.

To be honest going back the 10 for Gav may be the only way he will get back into the Wales side, outside Jones there are little better options other than Tovey!

Henson didn't fill me with confidence when he used to play 10 though. He used to run across field in about 10 minds and put those outside him in trouble half the time. But maybe that has changed, afterall he certainly used to make the right decisions from 12, so maybe that just showed how he'd matured as a player. His kicking game used to be lethal from 10 mind, and if all his groin troubles have propperly cleared up then that part of his game will probably be back to full strength.

Regarding Tovey, please Gatland give the lad a chance in the 6 nations, he looks class to me, great all-round player.

Booo,
Good that he's getting back into rugby, but did he have to choose them? :p

Only London club that would take him bar London Welsh!

I hardly call Watford part of London - That's a bit like calling Cannock part of Birmingham. Or Newport part of Cardiff.

OT - Where the **** is he going to play?

10? - lol
12? And oust Barritt?
15? And oust Goode?

Sarries don't need him. He's a publicity signing and will take up a huge chunk of the salary cap needlessly when they really need a fly half (don't be surprised if they've not gone over it with signing him).

I would be happy to sign Gavin Henson for Saracens, says Brian Venter

Gavin Henson trained with Saracens yesterday, his first involvement in rugby since he was injured playing for Ospreys 18 months ago, with the Watford-based club's coach, Brian Venter, saying he would be happy to sign the 28-year-old Welshman.

Saracens are looking for a fly-half, with Derick Hougaard ruled out for up to six months with an achilles tendon injury, but there are two issues to resolve over Henson. The first is his contractual status with Ospreys and the second is when he will be available because of his commitments on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing.

Nonetheless Venter believes he would be a welcome addition to the side. "Gav had a fantastic session with us and was well received by the squad," he said. "I would be happy to sign him. We wanted to meet him, show him our facilities and to see if this is a place where he wanted to play rugby again.

"I asked him why he wanted to join us and he said it was to rediscover his competitive side and prove himself again. That was the right answer for me."

Henson's lawyers have contended that the player's contract with Ospreys is void because he has not been paid for more than a year having taken a sabbatical. The region disagrees and a suggested compromise is that Henson spends this season in London and returns to Swansea next summer for at least the final year of his contract.

Saracens' chief executive, Edward Griffiths said: "We are in discussions with the Ospreys but we still need to agree on how he can relaunch his rugby career and continue with Strictly Come Dancing. There are still some other things that need to be tied down and it is by no means done and dusted. I hope we can reach an agreement but we recognise he has an existing commitment to honour."

Venter expects the issue to be "sorted in the next few days". He added: "We have said to Gav that he will not be coming here as our saviour, he will be coming to join our squad as one of two fly-halves."<figcaption>

Fly Half. Lol.

Ospreys should just refuse to release Henson and have him as a backup for/challenging Biggar.
If Henson really wants to play for Wales then his best shot is staying in Wales (especially as Gatland said he's probably not picking any England based players for the WC).

well looks like this is going to be done then. great to hear he's getting back to rugby, just a shame its not back with the ospreys. I hope for his sake he will find some form and back up his words :D only time will tell! Looks like he's gonna be out in next few weeks in strictly so hopefully he should be playing be xmas :D

You can already guess the headlines:

"something special dancing in the backline"
"Henson fox-trots into [strike]Durban[/strike] Saracens"

Ospreys release Gavin Henson from contract

Mike Cuddy:
"In the interests of Gavin personally, and for Welsh rugby in general, we have reluctantly agreed to his request to be released from his contract with immediate effect, enabling him to return to rugby with Saracens.

"I am disappointed and frustrated, both personally for myself and for the Ospreys, as one thing we would all want to see is Gavin Henson back in an Ospreys shirt. However, circumstances haven't allowed for that to happen, and it is necessary that we make the decision that we have in order to allow everyone to move forward from the current position.

"All rugby fans will look forward to seeing Gavin back on a rugby pitch, and we sincerely hope that he will be back in the red jersey of Wales before too long. With the Rugby World Cup taking place next year, no doubt that will be the focus of Gavin's efforts over the coming months.

"I know how strong Gavin's personal desire is to play at a World Cup. It has been a long-term ambition of his, and I certainly didn't want to be the person who prevented him from achieving that aim by standing in his way.

"As a rugby organisation, we pride ourselves on our contribution to the national set-up and we strongly believe that we would be the best place for Gavin to launch his return to rugby and to target a place in the Wales squad. However, as frustrating as it is for everyone involved at the Ospreys, on this occasion we have to concede that he will not play for us during the remaining time on his contract, and as such, take the responsible course of action that is best for all concerned.

"As one of the original Ospreys from 2003 Gavin has given great service to the region, playing a big part in helping to establish the strength of our brand, and from my discussions with him I have never been in any doubt about his love for the Ospreys. Unfortunately, changes to his personal circumstances have meant that he needs to seek alternative options. While agreeing to release him from the terms of his contract, we still hope that we haven't seen the last of Gavin in an Ospreys jersey, and we sincerely hope that one day he will return to his home region.

"Ospreys Rugby wishes Gavin all the best, and we hope that this move will enable him to once again become the player he was previously, regaining the influential form that he has shown for us on many occasions."

Well then, things are finally moving along. Basically as soon as he's out of Strictly he'll be playing again (given a couple of weeks to get up to speed). Hopefully he'll be voted off this week then....

Or he will quit Strictly, with an injury or something... Although that would cost him too much money...
