The 2012 ARC tournament is nearly upon us, with four teams set to take part. The Argentine Jaguars, USA Selects, Canada "A" and Uruguay. The tournament is desgined to bridge a gap between each countries amateur domestic competitions and full test rugby. The tournament will be held just outside Victoria, British Columbia, Canada with all games at Westhill Stadium(formerly Bear Mountain stadium). All games will be available via a stream on sportscanada.tv the quality of their streams has been decent(they hosted Georgia vs. Canada) although their commentary team has not always been up to scratch.

The Schedule.

Fri, Oct. 12
5:30 PDT Argentina vs. USA
7:30 PDT Uruguay vs. Canada

Tue, Oct. 16
5:30 PDT Argentina vs. Uruguay
7:30 PDT USA vs. Canada

Sat, Oct. 20
5:30 PDT USA vs. Uruguay
7:30 PDT Argentina vs. Canada

The Jaguars have sent a pretty good side and should be overwhleming favourites to win the competition. There are lots of Pampas XV players in the touring side.

Canada's Squad is decent but missing many key players who are at the Gold Coast 7's, so the backs are very young. The forward pack is a little more experienced. I can't see this Canadian side winning but 2nd place is very possible.

The United States squad is extremely experimental with only a few capped Eagles and known 7's players. It's a very young side and it's hard to predict how the side will do, many players may lay it on the line to make good impressions. The talent may not be there to compete with the Jaguars and to a lesser degree Canada however, and I'm thinking a 3rd or wooden spoon finish for the USA Selects.

I haven't been able to find a Uruguayan squad list at this current time, they could be a wildcard in this competition if as I expect they send a side which is close to their full strength national lineup. The squad wll be edited into this post when I find it. Or if anyone else knows it feel free to post below, it would be most appreciated.

Edit: Uruguayan squad is listed below in norcalbuff's post.

That's Hanno Dirksen's brother. Interesting he has decided to play for the USA, whilst Hanno turned them down to qualify for Wales in 2014.

Wow, that's crazy. One of the guy's that plays with city club around here, whom I met tonight after their practice, actually grew up with Hanno and played with him before he went to Wales.

Edit: I gotta say, I wish Peter Tiberio was on the roster. He's a damn good 7's player that could prove to be a good replacement in the XV's with some experience.

20-0 for the Jaguars at half time, I haven't caught much of it to but what I've seen more brutal goal kicking by the USA, I believe there kicker is either 0 from 3(maybe 4) with two of those being easily makeable. Jaguars were really starting to pick up at the end of the half.

Edit: Final score 39-3 for the Jaguars. Including a try at the death which was the result of a comically bad USA quick lineout attempt. A little sloppy in parts by both teams. USA defence held firm on a few occasions though and kept the scoreline from running away even further. I was very impressed Moyano Ramiro for the Jaguars he had two tries the first of which was spectacular.

Where can i see those matches?

Canada completed a 28-10 win over a hard fighting Uruguay side, I'll add some thoughts in tommorow.

Here is a highlight package of the contest.

What's happened to Jeff Hassler?

I thought he was supposed to be Canada's new up and coming most exciting back?

Uruguay seem to be inconsistent, their team from what I've heard is quite amateur and they struggle to get all their players to travel. They'll need to get a bit more professional if they have any hope of ever beating one of the North American sides or the 3rd place European.

He was with the 7's side in the Gold Coast and had a good tournament there, we have very few 7's specialists aside from possibly Phil Mack(who has occasionally appeared for the 15's).

I thought Uruguay played well on Friday in the 2nd half, their rolling maul was quite effective, there handling really let them down.

Result of first match, 21-10(11-3 at half) for the Jaguars, once again Uruguay with a good 2nd half though.

Final of 2nd game Canada wins 23-3(13-3) at half time. Going to bed so too tired to add too many thoughts. Canada vs Argentina on Saturday will determine the winner, while Uruguay and the USA will be trying to avoid the spoon.

Nice to see a good crowd out for the game. I think it was announced at about 2400. For a mid weeker in the ******* rain with A teams I think that that was a pretty fair crowd.

That was very pleasing, also how many came early and cheered on the South American teams in the prior game, hopefully we see a full house for the final day.

The final round of games goes today. Argentina Jaguars are at the top of the table with 9 points, while Canada "A" are just behind with 8, so the game between them will act as the championship, although Argentina have the advantage should a draw occur. Uruguay and the USA Selects will battle to avoid the spoon in the earlier contest, both have 0 points, though Uruguay have an advantage in point differential. A decent crowd of around 2,500 is expected(which is capacity). Some very good seats were available just the other day for those of yu close to Westhills Stadium in Langford. The games will also be provided on a stream for worldwide viewers by Rugby Canada and the participating countries on sportscanada.tv
