A Political Thread pt. 2

I think they're pretty common in European geek subculture as well (couldn't tell you which countries though just loads of Europeans I know have them).

Headline all wrong, you have to go halfway down until you find the truth which for the most part they get right.

Front load with the irrelevant bullshit and put the actual reasons at the bottom. Also mention only in passing that it's not just the EU that doesn't want to buy American vehicles but literally the entire world.

My GF works in the auto trade and Ford eco boosts are called eco booms due to the tendency for the wet belts in the cars to go catastrophically wrong and write the car off.

Yeah I need a van engine and astronomical maintenance costs to go to flipping Asda. Where I'll be fined for parking across 2 spaces because it won't fit in one.

Noone got called out though, Murray near immediately backtracked when Smith claimed to have not had those 2 guys on his podcast, and Rogan had only had only had them once after the claim it happened constantly. He also back tracked on what the guys said, he said they claimed to be experts and they said Churchill was responsible for ww2, which was countered that they never helped either view (I have nonidea if they did or didn't btw).

I also really don't like this current attitude that jokes are just bad comments in bad faith with the punchline get out clause (depending on who agrees with you). This really is a slippery slope to authoritarianism, deciding whose content or even intent should be the codified correct one, it takes some hubris to make that argument. It's strange because in recent years it was people complaining that right wingers were being platformed unethically, now it seems to be shifting, as the right takes the space, to right wingers wanting to morally censor. I mean thebidea Rogan HAS to interview more pro isreal guests, as claimed by Murray is wild.
I don't know much about this Daryl Cooper guy other than he did a thing with Tucker Carlson and said Churchill was the real villain of WW2. I mean, it's complete rubbish and unfortunately it's turned into dangerous rubbish as these charlatans are on the biggest platforms in the world saying this ****. I've not seen his thing on Rogan or Smith though.

I don't know much about cooper but just did some skim reading on views he had supposedly expressed. The guy is a straight up nazi apologist...

He seems to have claimed the mass death of eastern Europeans during the invasion of Russia was simply down to poor logistics rather than an fully intentional attempt at extermination, that he could sympathise with how Hitler believed the Jews stole Germany out and that his anti Semitism drove his love of Germany and how Churchill was wrong to refuse to make peace with Germany after the fall of France, therefore it was his fault the war lasted as long as it did.

Any one of these views is ridiculous but he seems to have said them all. In every one it seems he's trying to make excuses for the Nazis. I'm no expert but I've spent enough time studying ww2 to know that every one of those views he has supposedly expressed is absolute bullshit.

And on the podcast Murray said Andrew Roberts was willing to debate him and he declined saying Roberts knows more than he does. You couldn't make it up.

20 years ago these guys would be the crazy guy in the pub that you would put your hand on their shoulder at the end of the night and say "all right mate" and leave. Now they're online getting millions of views and people saying "maybe he's got a point" it's ******* mental.

I can't comment on the guy, mostly because I'm not interested...

But I can't agree him being stupid on camera is 'dangerous', I just can't get on board with censorship.

See, I know I'm ****** when I read a rational comment like this and my first instinct is *oh, alternative view, sounds interesting*

Hahaha

Whoa whoa, that's not what happened, Murray kept banging on about debating and apparently the guy just doesn't do debates.

So, in an ideal world, how would you fix the problem of people having bad ideas, promoting them to audiences?

I wouldn't call it censorship. I know nothing about football, so I shouldn't be expected the time to talk about it to viewers. Same way Farage should never have been allowed to talk about the EU.

Why not. As an outsider you might have a valuable opinion to share about it. You are in a unique position to talk about why it doesn't appeal to you specifically, and the reasons for that. That would be incredibly valuable for marketing the sport further no.

Now granted, myself and probably a lot of people wouldn't be interested in listening to a 3 hour podcast on thos discussion, but if someone with a big platform invites you, you 100% have the right to go and talk to them.

Who was the UFC fighter whonrecently went on a podcast and called Hitler a great guy and someone to tongo fishing with before he was a meth tweaker? I can't remember. Dana White IMO had the perfect take, that was essentially, he's a ******* moron, there are morons everywhere, but what should I do about it?

Jesus I just held Dana White as a bastion of free speech lol, the left are truly in trouble.

There's an outside view, then there's someone talking about it as though they have any authority or information about it like Farage did. He was clueless, never there and had no idea, but was allowed time to talk about it on BBCQT as though he did. That was dangerous.
