A Political Thread pt. 2

Didn't take long for the first lawsuit against trump's executive orders.
Chances are these will be escalated up the the supreme court, certainly the denying birth right citizenship one. Time to see just how corrupted they will be. Birth right citizens is complete unambiguous in the Constitution and previous supreme court rulings have said that the status of the parent doesn't impact upon the status of the child, with the exceptions being clearly spelled out (ambassadors and invading armies essentially). They showed they were happy to ignore precedent with Roe vs Wade but there simply isn't any wiggle room or capacity to interpret the Constitution to deny birth right citizenship.

Again, the Republicans were whinging about an overreach of executive orders when it was Obama but are now quiet on Trump literally trying to overturn the entire Constitution via executive order, defund programs despite the funds being allocated by Congress (the Executive cannot simply refuse to enact the funding Congress has approved) and undermining the already heavily undermined judiciary through mass pardons for seditionists. On day 1 he has attacked every single pillar of the US government and democracy. Judicial, Legislative and the Constitution itself.

I disagree with this argument I've not seen a single left governement/opposition not trying to make things better for everyone and focus on minorities solely.

It's a perception issue not an actual one.

They are rarely at the forefront of thier playbook but are are at forefront of their enemies who weaponise it against them.

Honestly it's a **** position you only have to see Trumps rolling back of affirmative action and legally being trans to see the other are extremely wrong. (I know some people are against affirmative action but ultimately it's about people being seen rather than ignored through unconscious bias).
Sorry but when you are losing the argument to the likes of ******* Trump of all people, then you ARE doing something wrong. Populists feed off people's fears and anger. It's quite difficult for them to grasp it if there isn't anything for them to latch on to that generates traction within society. What is the single biggest thing all right wing populists have been gaining power off the back of? Immigration. I remember when the big thing was about Poles coming over here and taking jobs shortly after they joined the EU. I also remember nearly all arguments against immigration being shouted down as being based in racism / xenophobia. Hell even the idea of wanting to protect the cultural identity of your own nation was portrayed as intolerance. Everything had to be sacrificed to the alter of multi-culturalism and anyone who said otherwise was a raving fascist. No alternative opinion was tolerated as acceptable.

I happily consider myself left wing but there are aspects of multi-culturalism that even I have found pushing me away from those I'd normally deem my allies. The obsession with finding a way to guilt trip people and making these things very in your face have pushed me personally away from a lot of what they are trying to achieve. I live in Birmingham and previously lived in Watford. both these areas are what you could say are diverse. I've had friends who are black, white, asian, straight, gay, male, female, religious, atheist etc and simply treat them all the same. That is how society should be imo but then that's not the message that's being put forward at all.

The biggest issue is crass hypocrisy. Did you know that there has been a move to say ethnic minorities should be called global majorities? How about when someone I knew at uni was perfectly happy to say male engineers are sexist pigs because engineering is still male dominated but retorting that she is being sexist by making those assumptions was somehow not acceptable? How about when I've witnessed a group of black kids calling people "white boy" or using similar language online and we accept that's fine but if you say black boy then it's terrible?

There ARE issues that have been simmering and that is exactly what the far right have latched on to. A failure to accept that the left are losing on this front due to the overbearing and hypocritical nature will just lead to this repeating.

If you can't even beat someone as bad as Trump then you have REALLY ****** up and really lost touch with the general perception in society. There simply isn't 2 ways about this. Trump is possibly the single worst president to have ever been president and he's been elected TWICE. Labour look likely to lose the next election despite 14 years of Tory fuckups. At some point we on the left need to look at why this is and pretending there's absolutely nothing wrong with the messaging or actions of those on the left will just allow this crap to continue.

I mean can you think of a single time it was pointed out that there are aspects of immigrant culture which are definitely NOT adding to ours in a positive way that didn't eventually boil down to accusations of racism or pretending there isn't a link between certain actions and cultures? By definition there are a multitude of cultures out there with elements that are contrary to what we as a country deem acceptable, and elements that are outright harmful and should be opposed. There are aspects of foreign cultures that are being brought into Britain that do not enrich us as a country in the slightest, there are cultures out there which are frankly ******* barbaric, so why is it such a stretch to believe that some people who come from those cultures don't hold those same views? Say it, you're racist. THAT is why the left is losing the argument.

either way the left just sucks at marketing . . . which which is kind of a crucial part of getting elected.

The democrats definitely went looking for cheap political points about how vance and trump were creepy instead of advertising the good they have done and how they will help everyone. I saw very few ads about the positives that democrats have done.

Trump just made **** up about he did or what he will do and people at it up.

The text of the EO declares: "'Female' means a person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the large reproductive cell." Linking sex and conception seems to bring anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ+ lingo together, but also demonstrates the lack of knowledge that at fertilization, and for many weeks after, every embryo is female. It's a point that people have been quick to raise online.

In the first few weeks after conception, all embryos look the same. We can call that state "unisex", but the basic blueprint is what we ascribe to female bodies – that's why, for example, everyone has nipples and not just those people who might end up lactating (although everyone has the potential to do that).

so now we have disinformation in the form of executive order.....

Does this mean that anyone who identifies as male, is technically (but only in USA) trans-male now?

Including President Musk?

Trump has pardoned Ross Ulbricht, mass drug dealer and stolen identity fraudster who apparently tried to solicit hitmen to go after his enemies...

I can kinda understand his other pardons, even if I fundamentally disagree with them, but I can't even begin to work out why this guy has been pardoned... He is a straight up criminal and nothing he did was to further trumps agenda. Worse, the Republicans are applauding it. I can't understand it at all.

I believe it's called "owning the lib.s"

For the modern right, it's a reason in and of itself to do an insane thing.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was at the behest of whichever crypto bros championed $TRUMP and $MELANIA coins to him - a lot of OG crypto people love (mainly just the idea of, rather than realities of) Silk Road
Everything's quid pro quo with Trump, and he's made more than a few quid off these coins

Firing people, by name, over Twitter if they won't bend the knee 🙄

One of those named has already responded saying he left two weeks ago and was an unpaid volunteer on a fixed term contract anyway

The one you refer to, Jose Andres, was probably more personal. He was sued by trump and then countersued over his withdrawal from a contract to open a restaurant in his hotel in DC.

It was in response to trump calling all Mexicans rapists, drug dealers and criminals. This was back in 2015.

Edit: it also turns Keisha Lance Bottoms had also resigned weeks ago.
Trump had already declared Milley should be executed a couple of years ago because he reassured the Chinese that there were no plans for war via back channels.

Trump holds grudges.

It's a promise he made to the libertarians - https://www.politico.com/news/2024/...cht-sentence-libertarian-convention-00160025?

US libertarians liked silk road being a complete free market without govt oversight, use of crypto, and general anti-govt regulation stuff.

That's it basically
