A Political Thread pt. 2

What a pathetic and disingenuous update from Zuckerberg. Framing the removal of fact checking and opening the disinformation floodgates as 'free speech' is straight from the far right playbook. The bloke is just a sell out and he'll no doubt pivot back to the Democrats and reintroduce fact checking as soon they're back in power.

Deactivated my FB account a year ago and won't be reactivating it anytime soon.

Really reccomend Newsagents podcast on grooming scandals

Leader of the Opposition people

Sorry... am I missing something?

"All the victims I've spoken to want a national enquiry"

"I haven't spoken to any victims"

Wouldn't want to be misleading parliament there Kemi would we?
The Tories learned under Johnson that there are zero consequences for lying to Parliament but many consequences for accusing someone of doing it.

Besides, wasn't the last enquiry something like 2-3 years ago?
How many of those recommendations were put into action by the government of the day?

Really hitting home how the Tories are just playing games with the rape of children... Honestly, for those who support the Tories still, are you genuinely ok with all this? The Tories have attempted to hijack a bill to protect children to tac on a demand for another inquiry. If the amendment got added (it wouldn't) then the bill would likely be voted down and not pass. they are essentially trying to position it as they get their way or a childrens welfare bill gets demolished.

These people are scum, plain and simple

The action / recommendation i can see being a sticking point is -

A national redress scheme for England and Wales to financially compensate child sex abuse victims who have been "let down by institutions in the past".

Professor Jay said this should be a "fixed-term scheme with a straightforward process" to ensure victims and survivors can get the help they need. The government would seek payments from the institutions involved in each case.

How individual local authorities and Police services would afford this with the sheer amount of victims i don't know.

Still i think they should pay up. It would not sit well with me if the organisations or government don't offer some form of redress.

Not sure I agree with that, the Tories got a proper spanking in the last election.
I meant consequences in terms of Parliament enforcing the rules. They are very strict enforcing the rules about accusing someone of lying whilst being very lax about actually lying.

See,.this is a stupidity of governments everywhere. Add an amendment which effectively stops everything dead. It's not limited to our government, look at what happened when trump wanted the debt ceiling cancelled.

If badenoch really wants to help then introduce a separate bill.

Gotta say I really love PMQs. Actually having to confront your opponent means you actually have to face up to getting fact checks. Kemi doesn't seem to have it in her. They nervous smile every time she gets called out is not good enough to be a far right troll.
