A Political Thread pt. 2

See Biden pardoned Hunter
NGL I don't really blame him, trump is gonna pardon himself very soon and no one on the right will give a ****. Republicans will want to come down hard on Hunter.

Like I get it.
I get it, in that any father would want to do it.

However, it makes a (long continuous) joke of the US justice system and, if Trump did it, the left would be up in arms about it.

Tbh it will reinforce people's view of the Dems as self righteous but hypocritical, suggesting they've not learnt any lessons from the election.

Its fundamentally wrong but the entire thing is political in typical situations they wouldn't pursue these cases and would of agreed to the plea deal.

Biden shouldn't of done it you have to be better than them but I get why he did it.

The US legal system is completely broken though.

1. Hunter abuses his position as the son of a prominent political figure and breaks the law = wrong
2. Opposition political party digs into Joe Biden's family business via very shady and likely illegal means = wrong
3. President pardons his son after he broke the law = wrong
4. US political and justice systems = wrong

Who gives a **** about Hunter ******* Biden the crack head.

No one gives a **** about presidents leading violent insurrections to over turn legitimate elections or presidents then ensuring that they can't face trial for crimes they have committed against the very constitution they were sworn to uphold and protect. Nooooo, let's all get our knickers in a twist about hunter biden and sleepy Joe pardoning him. Yawn.

Irish politics continues to be in a weak place. For background, until the last election we were generally a two party system (Fianna Fail and Fine Gael, both centre right) supplemented by smaller parties focused on a handful of specific social issues like housing and the environment. Left wing Sinn Fein grew massively in the last election and have more or less retained this. The result is, that for a government to be formed FF and FG must now form a coalition because both refuse to enter with SF.

I generally vote Greens who were hammered this time, as is normal for the smallest party in the coalition. The Social Democrats got most of their seats, and were my second preference (quite a low value vote for me this time around).

I don't see much change from the election. The biggest positive being that most of the far right, anti immigration candidates weren't even sniffed at. Also, one of the country's biggest gangsters in history, Gerry Hutch, missed out after looking strong for a period.

The thing is, the crimes Hunter is getting prosecuted for are normally just a slap on the wrist. His prosecution and punishment are way out of whack with normal procedure and that was entirely because of political interference.

I don't agree with what Joe Biden has done but you cannot continue to play fair when the other side is breaking the rules and taking the ****. The system has allowed Trump to get away with one if the worst non-murder crimes on the books. For Hunter to have the harshest possible punishment thrown at him and Trump to walk free is a far bigger injustice than Hunter being pardoned.

I thought this was a euphemism, but having googled him that is absolutely mental!
His interviews were gas. "The people want change, I'll give them what they want" repeat as long as the interviewer would put up with it.

But yeah, total lunacy, worrying that the inner city feel represented by him.

i dont actually have a problem with pardons, i listen too a podcast out of san quentin and its clear the justice system can be a bit ****** like @ncurd said above or those that had huge sentences on the three strikes rule getting caught with personal use Marijuana which is now legal all over the place ....but their should be some checks and balances like not pardoning people you're directly connected with...or yourself...in any other facet of life it would be a huge conflict of interest

When I first seen the name, I couldn't believe it was actually the real Monk - thought it had to be someone of same name.

Next time around is one of the Kinahans gonna stand too ffs?

Once again reinforces to me what a crock of **** representative democracy is if someone like that can nearly be elected.
The average person is clearly too stupid to have input into running a country... and half the population are even stupider than that!

I see you're fully integrated.

I think the public transport link is due in 2037 so if you hang around to 2046 or so you'll be golden!
That's fanciful.

2037 is 13 years away.
2046 is only 9 years after that... 🤨

They might have started by 2046 after all the bullshit legal enquiries and commissions.
