[2025 Six Nations] Scotland vs Wales - 8/3/25

This is a newly interesting game. Wales were good against Ireland but I think a part of that was being at home under a new coach, and probably surprising Ireland with how they played. Don't get me wrong, there was an attacking shape from Wales that, if replicated, will cause Scotland a lot of problems - but, I think it's different being away from home when you are a struggling side. If Wales went 10-0 down in this game I'd fear the worst for them. Head says Scotland should have enough at home to win this. If Wales can get close though I think they are in a good position to potentially beat England next week.
I'm not disagreeing with you as such, as I think we'll lose by 10-12 points, but we went 10 nil down against Ireland after 20mins or so but went into HT in front.

It's a cliche, but I do agree that the first 20 mins or so is very important.

Don't think it'll matter if Wales go 10 down tbh- how many times in recent years have Scotland been up big against them and lost/nearly lost? 24-10 down in 2010 and won, 17-3 down in 2021 and won, 27-0 down last year and nearly won.

At this point I'm so dissalusioned with the sport I'd be happy to see Wales lose 50 - 0 if we could just see a decently gladitorial game of rugby.
Watching the U20s get a red card for clearing out around the waist, another red card for a clumsy collision with the shoulder/ chest, and a game being dictated by referees interpretation of laws and not really what the players are doing

A clear croc roll you mean, which has literally destroyed players' careers? Perfectly justified red, and tbh wouldn't have minded if he picked up a permanent red as it's just so unnecessarily dangerous as it transfers so much force through the knee.

Nah mate it's fine, he's an actual rugby coach

Morning petal, new dawn new day, we are all eagerly awaiting what can only be described as your unique insights into todays games, who needs the Sage ones with you around, try and keep the ticker in check, to much negative emotion is not healthy.

Scotland to win by 10 points. Fin Russell, man of the match.
That would be fine if games were played on Forums but I think Wales will be tough opposition today. They desperately want to win but so do Scotland.

I do fancy Russell having a big game today though. 😂
Aside from his place kicking I thought Russell was superb against England. I'm not his biggest fan, and thought there was a good chance that he wouldn't make the Lions trip, but he controlled that game from start to finish, with his distribution in particular out of the top drawer.

In what realistic world would FR not be in the driving seat for the 10 Jersey, the usual suspects are not really in contention, I mean slight outside chance Biggs or Faz could somehow be involved but without that who else is there with experience from previous Lions tours, he's also been going extremely well for Bath which knowing AF would be heavily factored in outside of how Scotland perform.

A world where the guy responsible for the selection of the squad has always shown a preference for a 10 who controls the game and is consistent and disciplined in his application of the gameplan. I'm not convinced that Prendergast is ready for that responsibility, but I think Fin Smith might be. Russell is a fabulously talented player but he has a big error count and doesn't always stay on script, and from watching how Farrell loves structure and how he has has dealt with Crowley I'm not sure he has a great tolerance for those tendencies. Which is why I revised my opinion of Russell after the England game, because it was a very disciplined performance while still showcasing his creative ability.

Isn't that the point, all other conceivable options are pretty green on the international stage, whilst FR is a maverick without a doubt, he's experienced in that environment, tried and tested, I think your forgetting AF past involvements, he's far more adaptable and less rigid than you seem to think, the Irish setup works so well because it's foundations are largely laid by what Leinster already have in place with his additional tweaks where other provinces provide player who can add improvement or additional dimensions. Unless he decides to do a copy and paste job of the Irish setup, clicking the randomise button putting in a few other players from other nations I think your pretty wide of the mark and miss understand the man, this has been tried in the past and proven unpopular and not work for the most part.

I can't agree with this, a 50kg scrum half with his arms around the waist of a 100kg forward (if i remember correctly), making absolutely no headway in clearing him out is not a red card Croc roll. The Scottish player only moved after Boschoff came in to clear him out.

We have to have common sense, there is very little part of the body left players can actually touch, I mean think about it, the contact area has been so overly complicated lord knows what coaches are coaching these days. Nothing above the waist in open play, but also if you target the ball your risking red, nothing below the waist, no weight on the body, nothing near the head, nothing near the legs at the breakdown lol...

Just because he was smaller shouldn't change the fact he grasped the Scotting player by the waist after losing the race to the ball, and intentionally tried to roll the player over sideways = crock roll. The fact he wasn't quite heavy enough to cause damage on his own shouldn't change the action.

There are still ways to clear out safely in the ruck, although small guy vs big guy is a challenge granted.
