2018/19 Match Day Squads

Cheers - Excel document has been updated with all advice - though I'm a little surprised Sale would A] Want Ashton as the last line of defence at FB; and B] Select Ashton at FB ahead of McGuigan.
Any more for anymore? (I'm hoping to use this as a story on Sportsnetwork to keep the site open over the summer)

McGuigan isn't a very good fullback and Ashton has played there a fair chunk of the season for Toulon.
O'Connor will be first choice there when fit but we'll want our money's worth from Ashton and are well stocked on the wings

Ashton has indeed played a chunk of the season at FB - that's why we know it's a terrible idea.
FB accentuates both his strengths and weaknesses IMO - he's more able to track the ball carrier (I'd expect him to forge a fantastic partnership with Van Resburgh) - but leaves him cruelly exposed in defence, or clearing the line with the boot.

Then again, I guess beggars can't be choosers, when you've a bunch of specialist wingers and no FBs.
Besides, the order is supposed to be the expected pecking order assuming all are fit and in form... so I guess that's McGinty at FH, JOC at FB, and 2 from Denny, Marlande, Chris and Byron starting on the wing - where I was thinking you'd want JOC at FH, so you could get 3 of those wingers onto the pitch.

Doing this list shocks me once more as to just how vulnerable you guys are to injury. 1 single injury at Prop or SH, and you're into the academy already. Given Bath's last couple of years (and the grief we've received for only having 7 THPs on the books); and the ever increasing injury list across the Prem each season, and that thought would terrify me

Think there's zero chance Macginty isn't first choice 10.
I get what you mean about 15 but Ashton has played there more/More recently than McGuigan and McGuigan has never really played that well there compared to wing

And yeah, we've been short at loosehead for as long as I can remember. Fafs resurgent international career has buggered us at 9

Great work @Which Tyler.

Can someone confirm the cut off age for academy players please? I understand that some academy players may sign senior contracts while still at an academy age.

I think I can offer the following corrections, but in all but one cases, it would be good to hear from the Exeter contingent (@TobyBeastTeague @scotty507) in case I have missed something or made a dodgy assumption:

I think that Billy Keast is still an academy player. He must have been last season as he was DR'd to Pirates. He'll be 21 at the start of next season and isn't exactly pulling up trees, and I haven't read anything about him signing a senior contract, so I'd be surprised if he's not still on an academy contract. Similar for Tom Lawday, although he'll be 24, so may have to be on a senior contract, but Chiefs forum suggest that he's contracted to the academy until 2019. Also, he was named to the Championship Dream Team as an 8, although he seemed to play a good amount at 6, so maybe was shoehorned into the Dream Team and should still be viewed as a 6 - he certain looks more like one. Lastly Jack Maunder is young enough to still be on an academy contract and I can't find anything that says that he's signed a new contract. It would be a bit of a kick in the nuts to him if he is though as a capped international!

Gareth Steenson has been playing in England since his Rotherham days in 2006. He's played Irish U21s, but as the Wolfhounds were around in those days, I'd have thought they'd have been the nominated side, so I believe that he's an EQP. Mitch Lees has been playing in England since 2013 and has no caps, so I imagine the same goes for him. Phil Dollman has no international honours (called up to squad, but never capped AFAIK) and has been at Exeter since 2009, so same again. Tom Hendrikson was born in NZ, but has a Cornish mother and grew up in the Duchy from the age of 5, so is EQP.

A couple of questions for the Exeter lads. Whatever happened to Jack Andrew? He was pulling up trees in the England age groups and looked like a beast, but I haven't heard anything about him since he DRd with Redruth and never materialised. Also, do you know if AJ Cant has been cut from the academy? Last year he was reported as being DRd with Pirates (and subsequently Redruth), but this year reports talk about him having signed for Pirates and don't mention DR.

Hope this helps @Which Tyler, it turned in to a bit of a labour of love, so I can only imagine what a chore pulling all 12 teams together was.

Lees, Atkins, Steenson, Hendrickson and Dollman all EQP.

Also fairly sure that Atkins is now EQP. On Lawday, think he's played most of his rugby at 8; was certainly an 8 when playing for Exeter Uni. I've only heard good things about him so it'd be good to see him get game time this season. Not heard anything of Andrew and Cant; seems like both are just playing for the Pirates.

Wasit you who mentioned rusi tuima? Is he EQP and does he have a chance at making an appearance or is he still bit young. Hope maunder gets some gametime i do really rate him tbh.

13/15 of chiefs first 15 is made of EQP,
Hepburn

JSimmonds
Woodburn
Devoto/S.hill

Impressive for a top 2 side,

Atkins played for Scotland A v England Saxons.

Maybe Lawday ended up playing 6 a for Pirates as their other top line 8 is an 8 and nothing else. Making the Championship Dream Team is a pretty impressive accolade, no doubt he'll get a chance to show what he can do for Chiefs this season. I got my props called Jack mixed up, I know what Jack Andrew is up to, I was thinking of Jack Stanley if you have any info.

So the fixtures are out.

Chiefs vs Tigers

Cant see many changes to the Chiefs side that played in the final.
Maybe devto in for hill.
Cordero to FB.
Cuthbert to 22 shirt.
Who to put on the bench instead of waldrom, kvesic? Tuima? Maybe to early.

Worried about this one as i think tigers have made some good signings for this season.

I read an article saying Tuima is going to be DR this season (I think it was Plymouth?). He might get some involvement in the cup but I don't see him featuring in the Premiership.

I'm surprised Baxter hasn't gone in for another 8. I know Armand, Ewers (and occasionally Kvesic) can cover 8, but Waldrom has left a big hole to fill, both literally and metaphorically.

In fairness, Scotty507 did say 'maybe to early' (sic)
