[2017 Super Rugby] Round 1: Reds vs. Sharks (24/02/2017)

I was a bit disappointed with the Sharks lack of attacking ambition, but they mostly looked good in defense, and when they had the ball they had some promising momentum.

I thought Coenie looked good, as did Jean-luc, Mtembu, and in the backs Lambie, Am and van Wyk all looked pretty sharp. Clement Poitrenaud ruined two very promising counter attacks.

Reds look VERY dangerous on attack, they will be big competitors this year, Cooper, Hunt and that young inside created some great stuff, and Nabuli and Kerevi looked handy as finishers. Only Chris Kurindrani looked anonymous, give Perese a chance I say.

Anyway WP Reds but the Sharks to look very tough to beat, hopefully we can see them evolve a bit in the coming weeks.

I think Bosch at 15 might be a problem for us , i am yet to be convinced of van Wyk , Andre needs to start coming to the party now , Coenie looked good and so did Reinach

Give Bosch time, I actually thought van Wyk was pretty good, especially on defense, just one or two errors. I didn't think Reinach was particularly good actually.

As a neutral I didnt see much from either team to make me think they will win many games this year. QC is still the same player, creates opportunities for both sides, Moore looks past it - as he did last season, and I am not convinced that Smith is a good addition at his age. The Sharks really never looked like taking the game away either. Kerevi & Kurandrani showed glimpses of what they can do. I guess the both sides will be better for the run and it seems improbable that the Reds will have as bad a season as their recent efforts.

Not an amazing performance, but going to the Force next week, we should get a win off that performance.
Decisions but referees like the Hunt Yellow are killing the game, I'm definitely think referees should be judging on actions rather than outcomes and then using common sense. As a player you understand what's reckless and what's accidental and what can't be helped, something I find that the IRB don't seem to understand.. overall good start for the Reds though! :)

I get what you are saying, but its pretty straight forward, the IRB has made it clear that much more must be done to protect players heads and players just have to learn to adapt. I am actually surprised that given the guidelines for refs, that we havent seen more yellow cards in the first few games. There were certainly a few more that should have been given in this game alone. Contact with the head has to be stopped. I dont think "can't be helped" is going to cut it with the much higher focus on player safety now.

Talking of things that need to be cut out of the game, lets start with those Aussie Fox commentators, George Gregan with his monotone, inane dribble being number one, world's worst. I had to mute the sound to watch this game or I was going to throw a brick thru the telly!!

Yes i am sure Bosch is a gem in the making but can we trust him in a 1 v 1 as our last line of defence ? .. he looked a bit soft , Reinach service was better than usual and he made some good kicks but i do understand it is the first game for the boys lets build on this .

Good advert for the league and hopefully the Reds will add a bit of spice to the Oz conference if the Rebels fail raise their game. Lambie has to do better with that pressure kick though. Highlights.

I thought that compared to the decisions we've seen this year in the northern hemisphere, he got off easy, as did other players.
