Venue : AMI Stadium, Christchurch
Kick Off local: 19:35 local, 17:35 AEST, 09:35 SAST
Referee: Nick Briant
Assistant Ref 1:Kane McBride
Assistant Ref 2:Brendon Pickerill
TMO : Ben Skeen

Both teams have been announced.

Crusaders: Israel Dagg, David Havili, Kieron Fonotia, Dan Carter, Nemani Nadolo, Colin Slade, Andy Ellis, Kieran Read (c), Richie McCaw, Jordan Taufua, Sam Whitelock, Luke Romano, Nepo Laulala, Ben Funnell, Wyatt Crockett. Reserves: Codie Taylor, Joe Moody, Owen Franks, Jimmy Tupou, Matt Todd, Mitchell Drumond, Tom Taylor, Nafi Tuitavake.

Chiefs: Tom Marshall, Tim Nanai-Williams, Charlie Ngatai, Sonny Bill Williams, James Lowe, Aaron Cruden, Brad Weber, Michael Leitch, Sam Cane, Liam Messam (c), Brodie Retallick, Matt Symons, Ben Tameifuna, Hika Elliot, Mitchell Graham. Reserves: Quentin MacDonald, Siate Tokolahi, Pauliasi Manu, Mike Fitzgerald, Liam Squire, Augustine Pulu, Andrew Horrell, Bryce Heem.

The Crusaders have unsurprisingly brought Carter and McCaw back into the starting team. Crotty is sitting out due to concussion and a few other players have been rotated out of the team, namely Moody, Franks and Todd.

The Chiefs have opted for what is very close to their top team. The pack remains unchanged from the previous game but there have been a few changes in the backs. Williams, Ngatai and Nanai-Williams all return from injury while Weber takes over at halfback and Marshall switches from the wing to fullback, pushing McKenzie out of the 23.

This is very much anyone's game. You'd probably have to favour the Crusaders, given they're playing at home, but it could quite easily go either way. I don't think we'll see a blow out like we did in the previous match between these two.

Worth noting that both Nathan Harris and Tawera Kerr-Barlow could be back earlier than expected. Within a month both could be training.

It'll be interesting to see if an injection of experience can do anything for us. Todd will be a loss to us even if he is on the bench, he really does bring us some go-forward ball with the art of getting over the advantage line can be difficult for even our backs. Just hope for some discipline and patience. Sometimes I see them trying to get that extra offload or pass as the player is going to ground, and they just need to keep hold of it.

Local derby matches can be a little intense, so I hope Laulala, Taylor (if he gets on) and Fonotia mind the tackles. Like you said Fish, this could be anyones game. Not trying to make excuses for last week, but Highlanders were coming off a bye and we had traveled back from South Africa. Maybe this week we can settle into things a bit easier.

Certainly don't think it will be as big a blow out as last game.

Chiefs need a victory to keep up with the Canes so will need to start well.

interesting chiefs side, I'd play Heem over TNW, I mean seriously Nadolo vs TNW???
and it will be interesting to see how the chiefs attack goes without McKenzie, he's been the catalyst for most of what has been going well for the chiefs on attack recently.
SBW & Charlie Ngatai mid field being reunited is awesome news.

Should be alot more telling on where these teams are at than the last game. Crusaders will have all the motivation in the world for this... maybe their mind was on this game last week who knows.

But if they loose thats just about their season I reckon so the Chiefs have a real opportunity to do serious damage.

Crusaders dont use the ball they get well enough. They've had plenty of ball in this game to win it yet they are well down on the scoreboard.

way to many turnovers the crazy thing is they arent even really in the game even though they've dominated aspects of it.

Wow the Chiefs have read them like a book again. The gameplan by the crusaders is stale and totally predictable.

The crusaders have all the right stuff IMO (Coaches and Players) they just look so predictable and going through the motions.

They need a shake up would prob be best for all parties involved.

Cant really agree with that. Some of the backs are pretty average. If Dagg and Nadolo dont get front foot ball they are all but useless and the rest just shovel the ball on no direction in attack. Even seasoned guys like Slade, Ellis and Carter look bloody average in this team.... So no I reckon its both the players and the coach. The Chiefs knew exactly what they are going to do and when they are going to do it if that doesnt tell you whats wrong then nothing will.

I would of expected the forwards to show some backbone in this game but even they look sick of carrying the team and the lack of direction in the backs has infected them aswell. If the Crusaders dont make serious changes between now and next year they can expect the occupy the bottom of the NZ conferance for a very long time to come.

I said it is both the players and the coaches.

I said they have the players which they do and all have shown in the past what they can do but they are not performing now.

IMO the whole franchise needs a shake up.

That's if for the Crusaders' season, I see very little chance of them making the top 6 now.

They are pedestrian and predicable; Blackadder has to go.

This is one of the reasons why Samoa should be very competitive come the RWC. They could even upset the South Africans and top their pool. Imagine a Leiua / TNW combo in the centres carving them up. And with the number of Samoan players playing in the Super XV , Japan and Europe this could be a very dangerous team. Manu Samoa play with a lot of nationalistic pride so I am expecting big things from them. Could be worth a little flutter on them for those so inclined.

Very good game from the Chiefs, apart from a few decision making errors it was a solid all round performance.

For all the talk about how poor and uninspired the Crusaders' attack has been, they're still the top try scorers in the competition (yes there's been a blow out or two, but they've still been consistently dominant in the forwards). For the Chiefs to not let them over the whitewash even once is a pretty good showing - especially when you consider how much defending they did.

I thought Graham had a strong match for the Chiefs. He may not be as physically strong as a guy like Tameifuna he's a million times more intelligent. Elliot continues to do the core jobs very well, I'd like to see him doing a bit more on defence though.

Retallick and Cane looked very good, Retallick is already getting back to his best. Cane is the form 7 in NZ at the moment, I'm not sure if McCaw should be starting the test matches ahead of him, but we'll have to wait and see. The only weakness in Cane's game is he tends to lose the ball in contact more than he should.

Weber is clearly the better option to start at halfback. Pulu is a good impact player but he doesn't have the temperament for close matches. I'd seriously consider Weber as a bolter for the All Blacks - for me it's a straight shoot out between him and Ellis (and Ellis has been very lacklustre so far this season, apart from one or two games). Contrary to what I said earlier, it doesn't sound like TKB will be ready for the World Cup, sadly. It will be interesting to see what happens next year for the Chiefs, I don't know if TKB, Weber and Pulu all want to fighting it out for two spots week after week.

Hopefully Cruden's injury isn't too serious. Horrell did ok as a fill in last night (more so on defence than attack) but obviously McKenzie would be starting at 10 if Cruden is out for any period of time. The SBW/Ngatai combo was fairly quiet (apart from that one bust), but it was good to see the combination again. TNW, Lowe and Marshall all had good games. I know @TRF_nickdnz isn't a fan of Marshall, but he hasn't done much wrong for the Chiefs in his time in Hamilton. I think I'd certainly be sticking with this trio next week, though having TNW on the bench as an impact sub with Heem starting at 14 is a good option too.

The Crusaders were outplayed across the park, really. Taufua looks dangerous on attack but he does almost nothing on defence. That being said I was surprised they subbed him - as opposed to McCaw, because McCaw looked pretty average last night. I'm not really sure what the Crusaders need to do to turn their season around. I'm sticking with what I said in the predictions thread, they aren't going to make the top six, but they'll be very close still. I'm certainly very happy that the Chiefs have both them and the Blues out of the way, because both of those sides could do some damage to the Hurricanes ***le hopes (who still have to play the Crusaders and Chiefs twice and the Highlanders and Hurricanes once).

On another note, how is that the Crusaders have ended up having to play both the Brumbies and the Waratahs in Australia?? That's ridiculously unfair.

Nadolo is the reason Crusaders score so many try's he is a freak of nature.

Totally agree if they could gel along with the Fijians they could cause a few upsets.

Yeah pretty solid effort by the Chiefs all round, massive D to keep the Crusaders out all game.

Felt like all the team contributed and reminded me of the Chiefs that won 2 back to back ***les, amazing what an injury free team can achieve.

Crusaders looked lost and I think Blackadder's time is numbered, there is no direction to there attack and the the kick and chase then turn the ball over tactic they seem to employ is just not working, McCaw a few years ago thrived in this tactic, however he has shown us that Cane surely is the #1 seven in the country, will the selectors have the balls to pick him?

As a Chiefs fan pretty happy with this effort, and with the run of teams we have to play before the playoffs things look good to top the conference, in saying that we need to beat the Hurricanes & Highlanders on the road, and then the Canes at home in the last game to maybe seal it but feel confident if we keep playing like this we can do it.

the good thing about the chiefs is they seem to still be building into the season and starting to look more and more like a team who can win the comp.

Cruden could be gone for the season, never a good sign when a player goes down with a knee problem away from contact.

I honestly dont think the chiefs will not miss him too much with McKenzie there. Only issue really is that he's very young and lacks some experience, chiefs should look to manage and rotate him, get him ready for the finals rather than play him week in week out. He plays at quiet a high intensity, which wont be easy for him to maintain at this level I think.

Messam is having another big season and he just always seems to be in the action, he and michael leitch are combining really well, Sam Cane doing ok. A little up and down in what is really his first season as the #1 chiefs openside. Horrell did well as cover at 10 apart from goal kicking which was obviously a bit rusty.

Was kinda a quiet game for SBW & Ngatai but still pretty good, some strong runs from SBW and defense was awesome across the park, not easy to keep the crusaders tryless at home, I doubt many teams have ever managed to do that. Nadolo hardly fired a shot and he's basically been impossible for teams to contain, how many games for the crusaders has he not scored or setup a try?

TNW was superb, with some selections they dont really make too much sense until you see them in action. What us armchair coaches dont see is what happens at trainings.

I dont think it's knives out time for Blackadder, you got to be smarter than that. If anything I think he's a very good coach but attack is the main issue at this point, the crusaders really need some help with their attacking game.

^^ The thing about the Crusaders attack is everybody knew it was **** last year and they've done nothing to even attempt to rectify that between this year and last!!

Every other NZ side.... except maybe the Blues have added depth to their backlines and have unearthed atleast one or two absolute star players!

Crusaders are just clueless and you cant put that down to anything other than Coaching and the general mentality of the organisation as a whole.
