I took the liberity of adding polls for the respective fixtures- thought it might be fun to see what TRF users' picks might look like. I myself quite fancied the Reds to come good this season and give the Waratahs a run for the Aussie top spot (if they can stay fit that is.. while they allready have a few names in the injured column).

Love the poll idea for the threads!

I'm going with the Reds too. They looked good in preseason (even if it was against a very understrength Crusaders).

the poll idea is superb.

I read that Hunt, apparently, was very good at 10 in the Crusaders trial?

How good was he?

He was very solid, nothing too flashy like Cooper but he ran the backline well. Definitely promising and given that the other 10 the Reds have is a rookie who was reportedly very poor V the Rebels he'll have to do for the early season.

You can watch the full game here, starts a 1:18:00.

Took the liberty of highlighting every player who will make an big impact in this game. As some of the members of TRF aren't involved with Queensland Rugby, Premier rugby like I am, they may not have seen these players in action before.

Cheers for that. You reckon Taulagi is a ball-in-hand type fullback or is he likely to give the ball a punt more often? I have him in my fantasy rugby line-up as a back up but might consider taking a gamble on him if he is the type to have a run back returning kicks?

I've played against JJ twice and watched him play over 40 times. He hardly ever kicks, His instinct is to run the ball back and step he's got very quick feet (He also tried to steal my girlfriend at a night club once ;) but he is also rather average on defence.... I call him the Jamie-Jerry Revolvingdoor...

Also I'd recommend Chris Feuai-Sautia for fantasy teams. He's a try scoring machine as it Samu Kerevi.

Good to see Jarrad get the start over Ita Vea. Will be intersting to see him up against Jake Schatz. The two aren't on the best of terms I believe.

Good to see you around again @Woldog. I'm backing the Reds for good things this year.

JJ then sounds like a good 'value' fantasy pick-up as running meters and carries are very well rewarded and poor defense not so heavily penalized in the draft league I am playing. I also managed to snap up Kerevi (he was my 3rd pick- I rate him highly) but held out too long and didn't manage to draft CFS. Also got Adam Thomson and Kuridrani was a freeby.. actually I realize I've got near a 1/4 of my team Reds and another 1/4 Hurricanes and 1/4 Lions. Probably as I see them as 'ball-in-hand' teams which is so valuable for fantasy rugby.

Any news on when JOC might get a run out for the Reds?

Reds got absolutely hammered today. How did Hunt perform as a 10?

Didn't really, however the entire reds team misfired and the pack was being taken apart. The backline was pretty stuttering and there were lots of passes behind the players checking momentum. Hunt kicked out of Hand pretty well and when things stuck could play a good distribution role. What I might say is that the reds were very weak defensively no line speed and as 10/VC/noted defensive organiser he may have to take some blame for that.

Whew. The Reds had absolutely nothing. No attack, no ability to maintain possession, shabby defense. The one good thing I can take away from their performance is that they made the Crusaders' earlier performance look absolutely brilliant. ;)

Brumbies looked like a well oiled machine and just played the Reds off the park.
Had Horwill in one of my fantasy teams, big hairy mistake...

Brumbies played well last season, too, but seemed to lose their momentum as the season wore on. I hope they can avoid doing the same this time around - I really enjoyed their game last year.
