[2015 RWC] Pool C: Tonga vs. Georgia (19/09/2015)

Mmmmm, I'm not sure how much more I can watch. As much as its a wonderful occasion, the rugby is very poor. I forget sometimes how much of a skill difference there is between the top teams and the lower ones. The in play kicking is woeful. Georgia going well though. One has to wonder if they will be able to continue this for 80 minutes. Not sure I'll be watching to find out though...

This would be a great game if both sides could keep a hold of the ball.

Georgian defence is great though.

I just think defences have been on top, so the backplay has been quite constricted. The forward play has been very good, strong scrummaging, completed lineouts, pick and drives and rolling mauls. It's not aesthetic at all but I wouldn't say there has been a shortage of skill.

The game might open up a bit in the second half as the defences tire.

I'm sorry.................... But for the first game to abuse the **** out of the TMO... and they not even check that pass? So far, the TMO usage has been a joke.

Given that this is perhaps the most important game for both of this teams, are they not allowed to have some nerves about the game which leads to some poor play? England were pretty patchy last night, and I'm sure you'd probably consider them in the top level of teams. Relative to their peak, aren't these two doing at least ok.

If you want nothing but top quality, how many teams do you take out? 16 teams....there will still be plenty who aren't top level....so 12 maybe? WORLD cup? It's about inclusion of teams not exclusion; and these sort of games should be enjoyed and embraced as part of that.

And besides I've seen some real stinkers between top 10 sides...

Just my £0.02

The TMO should only be used if the ref asks. All incidents not referred should be either accepted or cited if dangerous.

Its the complete lack of vision (perhaps execution) when it comes to in play kicking that frustrates me the most. Then its the ball handling/passing. Lots of stone cold drops and several pretty average forward passes. Basic skills if u ask me.

I'm really worried about how the officiating is tracking as well, particularly the TMO involvement. Its killing any momentum. But its the stuff in rucks and mauls where players clinging out are slipping up around the neck that is really unfortunate. Anyone that has played the game knows it happens all the time. If the continue to try and police it the way they are now this RWC is going to be very frustrating to watch...

Pretty patchy? I'd say they were pretty rubbish for about 65 minutes ;)

You've incorrectly inferred quite a lot from my comment too. I never at all said I wanted teams dropped from the tournament....Nor did I say I wanted nothing but top quality rugby!

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for both these teams, and have stayed up till midnight so far to watch (after getting up at 6:00am this morning to watch game 1). All I'm saying is I had forgotten how big the skill gap is and in particular wish the in game kicking could be a little more thought out. Given the time, and the fact I wanna watch SA Japan, I'm not sure how much more I can watch before I hit the hay!
