[2015 RWC] Pool A: England vs. Uruguay (10/10/2015)

Hope Nowell plays he has done nothing wrong not to be even on the bench was class in six nations

Wells it's got to be a run out for those that haven't had a chance to show how they could have averted disaster. Not fussed about the pack but the back line has to be:

9. Care
10. Ford
11. Knowle
12. Slade
13. JJ
14. Whatson
15. Goode

And just for a laugh put have a backline of Haskell Burgess Easter.

Bench who you like. Might as well see what burgess could have done if SL had followed baths gameplan.

Or why not drop Faz, say he's injured and give Cips a run out.

Let's be honest who cares what team they pick as long as it's all out attack and they make it exciting. Might as well go out on a high.

Agreed I'm surprised he hasn't had a start already, Tomas Francis commented recently that Slade has the X factor.

The infuriating part is that Lancaster looked at a lot of players in the warm up games and then chose to ignore what he had seen, including Slade's impressive performance at 13.

Yeah, I'd like to see all the unused guys in and some attacking combos around.

Mako, George, Brookes
Launch, Kruis
Wood, Haskell, Morgan
Care, Ford
May, Burgess, Slade, Nowell
Watson

Youngs, Marler, Wilson, Lawes(Inj?), Easter, Youngs, Joseph, Goode

I don't think Lancaster will switch it around that much though.
Good idea.

Bit rough having to play this fixture after the past weeks events. Just got to hold your head high and put in a good performance.

I really think this is one England can win and restore some pride.

This game is irrelevant. England should play all the unused players - Wilson, George, Care, Slade, Nowell etc & just give them free licence to attack. Won't change anything bar a temporary feel good factor. Just a thought - could Lawes be ruled out injured and replaced by Itoje? Probably a bit Machiavellian for SL and his mates!

Ford back, Farrell at 12, Slade 13, Nowell & Goode start. Joseph & Brown on bench - according to today's leaks/briefs (still can't get my head around the point in those!)

Goode?:wall::wall::wall:

Well to be fair I don't think Goode has played a minute of rugby so far despite being on the bench.....

and May went off with what looked like a hamstring injury vs Australia, so not really shocking.

Farrell at 12 is just BS though.

The sad thing is this is what should of been considered more than what was done when Joseph was injured.

It does mean we might get our wish and never see Barritt in an England jersey again.

It is so frustrating hearing this early again. I would understand if it came from management and was purposefully incorrect but it just looks like there has been a snitch in camp this whole tournament talking to the press.

Just another small slight on a not so tight ship that the SL and his team are running.

Interesting listening to Neil Back the other day saying how he and the rest of the squad knew all the different scenarios back in 2003 leading up to the World Cup.

I'm not sure about going into that level of detail with all the players but the fact that Billy Vunipola didn't realise he scored (or needed to score the 4th try) against Fiji says a lot.

Anyway that all being said if this team news is true it would mean yet another new centre partnership and another brand new 10/12/13 combination!

So much for learning from your mistakes Stuart!

I'd rather play David Wilson at 12 than Owen Farrell.

In fairness, I think if he'd kept Barritt in there, there'd be mass uproar as well, so he couldnt really win here.

He actually has 4 "playmakers" in the squad which doesnt make much sense to me. If you're going to attack, why have a not particularly attacking full back, I'd love to see Mike Brown run at these guys despite having a rare few mistakes vs Australia. Pity May is injured or we might have seen Watson at full back too, however the entire back line again looks unbalanced because of the 4 potential out halves playing who are all playmakers rather than players who make the impact.

Points of note:
include that it could be seen for Farrell to regularly play 12 with Ford, and I do think this could work with the outside backs we've got. Plus he's a phenomenal kicker
be great to see how Mako does from the start, I hope he continues to work at his scrummaging because he's taken major strides with it, and if it keeps improving, well the world should watch out!
I'd genuinely prefer Burgess at 6 to either Tom Wood or Haskell

Also, this should be noted that everyone in this game should look "good", even the likes of Alex Goode. I mean, it's hardly demonstrating if anyone is worth their place, so I'd say he'd have been better giving Jamie George a run out, especially as he's the best set piece hooker we have. George Kruis as well could have started ahead of Parling, again because he's got the potential whereas Parling may be getting on a bit now. Furthermore why even bother with Wigglesworth in a game like this, even on the bloody bench!

He should have played Burgess there - Farrell at 12 shows worrying signs for the future (if Lancaster survives the cut). I don't think Burgess' future lies in the centres (or in union, really) but it shows more thought that shoe horning Farrell in there, especially when you've got Slade at 13. I mean, you've got three 10s in the midfield and an ex-10 at fullback. What.

George and Wilson will head back home with about 30mins rugby between them. What a bloody waste.

Why start Youngs and Cole? Better to have given a proper rest.

Burgess getting the blame by the coaches IMO. Shows he is just going with Media. Farrell has shown he is a crap 12.

Why the funk have someone like brown on the bench let him rest or start him IMO.

All of the above are yet more signs of scrambled thinking under pressure.

We talk about balance in the midfield and, yet again, this management team have not got it right.

Whether you like Burgess or not he actually played pretty well against Wales and Fiji when he came on. Also Burgess & Slade have played together before and did very well.
