[2015 RWC] Pool A: Australia vs. Fiji (23/09/2015)

Yeah, JOC was pretty underwhelming at the Reds.

As for Horne, I haven't looked at the stats, but I've never been a huge fan. NSW coach selecting a NSW winger?

JOC wasn't at his best for the reds but to be fair the team was woeful, the lack of a off season contributed to his injury and form the guy had been playing rugby non stop for over a year. Class is permanent and the young man has blistering pace.
Horne is a good super rugby centre and wing but he lacks the size and pace to be a world class outside back, decent footballer who will give his all and tackle like a demon but AUs can do much better.

Haha, yeah I thought you might say that. Personally I don't think it should matter too much if your team has been performing poorly. Patrick Tuipulotu was on the cards to be in our World Cup squad and the Blues were absolutely shocking.

Having said that though, some players do perform better at international level than Super Rugby. :)

Aus will not be as naive / lazy in letting Fiji disrupt their rucks and turn ball over as England were, and will not make as many basic mistakes. Combined with the quick turnaround for Fiji, I'm afraid I can see this being a thrashing, 30-40 points

Australia's backline is criminally talented, what a showdown this is going to be! No Quade Cooper anywhere though, didn't even deserve a spot on the bench?

I actually think Horne is pretty good, I always considered him quite average and very one-dimensional, and while he's still one dimensional since they've moved him to the wing he's proven himself to be a very good finisher. He's also big and solid and a good tackler in general.
Cooper isn't consistent enough, not the man you rely on in a tough situation.

I agree. Thats the reason, he's a Cheika's boy

Australia to win 45-16. AAC and Horne are both great defenders, I don't see Fiji being able to get much change from Australia. They won't boss the breakdown either with Hooper and Pocock, as well as the Aussie pack being better nowadays.
I really rate Horne, gives some very strong running and physicality, also would back him to score.

JOC had been carrying an injury that he picked up with Toulon all through super rugby has just recently had surgery. Rob Horne is solid and neither Tomane or Spieght seem to have brought there super rugby form too test match level. What I was trying to figure out is what is going to happen with KB and Matt Toomua off the bench? your not going to sub KB for Izzy unless your up by 30, they are not wingers (cant remember last time KB played wing) and I cant see Kuridrani being subbed. It just leaves a straight 10/12 swap, thoughts?

This is a great opportunity for Cheika to give the back benchers a chance to stretch their legs, and still leave some big guns on the bench in case things start going off the rails.

Good point. It does seem like you have an abundance of cover at 10 and 12 - KB, Toomua, and Gitea can all play both, with Foley being the specialist fly-half, but all the Aussie backs are so versatile it doesn't really matter. It might have made more sense to bring an explosive winger along, but obviously Cheika favours the options it gives him.

Lads who will kick pens for Aus , Giteua or foley? And who will kick against uruguay on Sunday , will foley start that game too , need to know for fantasy rugby

Foley will kick against Fiji, and then I assume that they will make whole sale changes, much in the same way the ABs have, for the Uruguay match. If that is the case Foley will be out of the team altogether, and they will probably start Quade at 10, who I assume will kick goals. I imagine he will have Phipps on his inside, Beale on his outside, and Toomua in the team as well. That may leave a spot on the bench for Foley, but with Toomua and Beale in the team, then they have 2 other guys to play 10 if needed.

You thinking fantasy?

Me too, I've gone with the safe option of putting guys in my squad that I know will play for certain. If you wanna take a risk the I reckon Quade at 10 may be the way to go as he should start, and kick, and probably score more fantasy points that Foley. Would be a risk though as he may not start or kick.

Anyway, you may well get some better advice from the OZ posters.

Hey bro, I'll post a reply over on the fantasy thread just so we don't clutter this one up with non OZ/Fiji stuff.
